Clone

2 replies • Last post

A question for the mighty Ed and conspiracy theorist forum activists like me....

Why would a casino company have two casinos - one being an exact clone of the other apart from the name?

I can understand why a casino group would have different brands - ie different casinos with different names and appearance - but what's the point of doing exactly the same thing twice?

Don't want to openly trash any names at this stage as there might be a viable reason for this unique marketing (I guess) approach.....

Online highway robbery or am I reading too much into this? Any ideas?

At first I was going to say that is very common but then I just re-read it. Exactly the same - apart from the name? i.e. the graphics and lobby and everything are identical?

Groups that have several casinos are often effectively clones with a different set of graphics (a.k.a. a "skin") but I haven't come across one like you describe. A couple of explanations come to mind:

1. They are hoping to hit different search engine keywords based on the domain names. Domains are a very important factor in ranking for the keywords in the domain name. For example, this site naturally ranks well for "casino listings". And that is why you see a lot of strangely named casinos like First Web Casino or Windows Casino - its all about angling for the keyword searches.

2. Its not the casino itself doing it but an affiliate of the casino who has set up a cloned site and is hoping to earn a commission from people signing up and/or downloading the "master" casino via their site. I have seen that sort of thing before.

Thanks Ed - it must be one of the two.
