Would You Help a Stranger?

21 replies • Last post

Hiya,

I recently went to the casino with a friend who didn't know what she was doing. As a slot lover, I took her straight to the video slots. I had no idea that she hadn't played a slot game before. I literally had to explain every aspect and show her how to bet. I wouldn't have minded but she was glued to me and I spent the entire time guiding her. She wanted to hit the tables so I figured Roulette would be a good place to start.

I took a break to grab a drink and when I came back she was asking other players at the table for advice. Most of them were not willing to help another player and I don't blame them. You don't expect to be bombarded with questions from a stranger. Players just want to get down to business.

Would you have the patience to show someone the ropes? How would you react if someone had no idea what they were doing and gravitated to you for help.

hmm I haven't thought about that before, but I think I'd find it very irritating and uncomfortable... She'd better learn how to play first and then go to a casino..

I had a friend like this. I gave her the basics then went off on my own. You are a better person than me usne, I ditched her. I mean slots are not rocket science. As far as a stranger, I would have a difficult time being rude. My answers would be short and hopefully they'd get the hint.

I think I am pretty willing to help strangers in need, but my line would be once they learned the basics to let them go. I am there to enjoy myself, not be a teacher. I mean if you are offering advice to a player and that person loses, you may be facing a situation where they are going to be ticked off at you and it really isn't your fault.

Now if they were paying me on the other hand...

Sometimes mee 2 have questions about some games, but not about slots 😂 they're very easy to play, you just do nothing 😂

I mean some skill games that need experience like blackjack and poker. I've never thought that I was irritating others too... I'll think about it...

You need to introduce the newbies to the beginner's table in the casino. Some casinos have a roulette or craps (especially since the options are so complex for a beginner) table where they help the new players learn the game. Learning slots is pretty much an oxymoron though - insert coin, pick bet size, press button.

Although if the girl is hot, you watch how many guys are willing to help her learn how to play...

That's true but the question is what would you do if a nerd girl asks you to explain roulette combinations and their payouts in details for her ? 😨

If she's a nerd then you can explain that the house edge is exactly the same no matter where she places her bets, so she may as well throw her chips randomly on the table! Although that might make her want to stay around you longer...

I remember when I knew NOTHING about BlackJack or Slots. I actually bought one of those little cards to tell me how to play blackjack (in the casino gift shop), but I was too embarrassed to use it half the time, lol. I did practice online at free sites to get the idea of the game before I played. Blackjack just is not my game. I am NEVER lucky. I love Texas Holdem and I found that going to the local bowling alley/bar on Wednesday nights helped a lot. The people there are very newbie friendly, so by the time I was ready to move up to the casino, I was ready.

Slots? I knew nothing! I started out with slots that you only had to hit one line of number to win. Grand Nickels was my game for a long time. I did not like the games with "all the lines," because I didn't like not knowing why I won when I won. Now, I don't care, lol, and I slowly branched out to the penny slots with more lines. I also played a lot of video poker in the beginning, and that was my ONLY BIG win at a casino: a royal flush!

I have a funny story from when my brother helped my mom learn how to play. She really does not like casinos and she will NEVER spend more than 20 bucks. She has probably gone five times her entire life. Well, anyway, she was cheering like crazy when she would hit something, and my brother looked over and she had won 25 cents back on a 40 cent bet. So, in other words, every time the machine hit, she would cheer, even if she wasn't getting her money back, lol. She liked the "bells and whistles," but my brother explained to her what was happening.

I guess as far as the question goes, I would teach someone for a bit, but then I would cut them loose. Set them up with some of the easier machines then tell the person where we would meet back in a couple of hours and wish them good luck!

I also find that any of the lower stakes tables have patient dealers and players (most of the time) that are helpful to those who really want to learn. They would rather teach them than to have them screw up their game, lol.

haha, Sophia, yes she does! It is so funny, because she says she hates to gamble, but I am sure she would change her mind if she would win just once, lol. She saves up her quarters and winnings from playing Bridge, which she plays every week, then spends them at the casino once per year. Last year, she said she was going to use her quarters for something else now, because she didn't like losing all her hard earned Bridge money, lol!

I would help them. I enjoy helping people and love casino games so would enjoy teaching someone how to go on!

Hi..
I'm a newbie too but I know the basics 😜
Well, I really get captivated by helping others. I don't know if it's good or bad but once I see someone who needs some help, I just can't stand by. Of course I don't want anyone to blame me for their loss but if he/she asks for help that's what I can give.. Actually, now, when I think of it sometimes I even get more pleasure from helping than from gambling (especially when it comes to hot girls 😉 ).
On the other hand, some games are just unhelpable.. Like Poker. If you help someone get familiar with poker, you unwillingly give him/her your style details, so they know how would you have played in their places and I believe that is the biggest advantage a Poker player could get.

I'd agree with barbadosslim93 above, I'd be worried that they may lose after I gave them my advice and I'd end up feeling guilty.

Talking about table games. If I've gone to a casino with a newbie friend I'd stick with them and help them out if they want it. With friends along I find the whole casino experience to be very social more for fun then anything else. If I was gambling alone and a stranger needed help I'd probably explain the rules and that's about it.
As for for slots each machine is pretty much comes with intructions included.
