What Is Your Favorite Land Based Casino?

60 replies • Last post

I have not had the luxury of going to tons of casinos, but I can say that I have been impressed with nearly all of the casinos that I have been to. My favorite so far is MotorCity Casino in Detroit. It is located downtown, has a great overall look to it (built in an old Wonderbread factory!), and has paid off well for me in the past.

I also REALLY want to go to Las Vegas and check out the plethora of casinos there. I assume some of you out there have been to Vegas; what is your favorite casino out there.

If you haven't been to Vegas but have a favorite land based casino, please share what it is and why you love it so much. It will be fun to hear why people love their destinations so much!

Just don't go when its busy, you will never get one. As far as I have played, its the best video poker in all of San Diego, its full pay on most of them, just have to search out. I get lots of free room nights, but never use them, I guess since I live 15 minutes from the place I just have no need for them. Since it is a tribal casino its a max of 2000 slots and video machines. But one thing I like they do have most of the new ones there. As well the staff is the friendliest and most professional of the casinos I have been to in San Diego. It was just a stock photo as well 🙄 I wish I could take pictures that well.

Looks like a very nice casino! 🙂 I would SO use those free room coupons, lol! I might also be in trouble if I lived 15 minutes away from the place. haha! 😉

We have been to BelTerra in Vevay,Indiana.I went to visit Vevay many times when it was just a quiet,sleepy,one-ferry river town,in fact, had my honeymoon there. But now it is booming and I know they are thankful for the jobs.I live practically on top of Horseshoe, close to New Albany,Indiana. When that first opened,it was Caesar's and all the people wore Roman costumes, very cute guys in little dinky togas. It seemed Indiana had a law that the gambling boat had to cruise,so it would go in and out of the pier a little ways, all day and all night, back and forth. That always made me nervous because I don' t do so good on water. Now that law has been repealed and they can stay docked at the riverside. They have built a grand hotel and have a nice comp buffet. My good friend and I sometimes go for the buffet and people watch and don't lose a dime. But most of the time,we play.Fun place to go,and lots of jobs for the area.Wish Ky could clean up on some of those casino dollars. We have such a nice riverfront and casinos seem to be the only things missing.Maybe someday the voters will allow it.Meanwhile,we will give our dollars to Indiana, and, hopefully they will give us some back, when we win.

That sounds like a really nice place. The only time I have been on a casino boat was in St. Louis, and we kind of walked on and through and back off. The person I was with at the time did not like to gamble, but we were doing the tourist thing, lol.

The closest casino to me is about 30 minutes, and I thought it would be a temptation (there are actually two, a large one called Mystic Lake and a smaller one down the street called Little Six), but my favorite casino is much further away from me, so I save my money for when I go there. Mystic doesn't even let you play a while with your funds: eats it right up so it is not even fun anymore. Some people call it "Mistake Lake," lol..

My favorite land casino, Coushatta in Louisiana is tightening up.. went there last week and lost almost my budget. They have this newly opened smoke-free hotel, really nice! I'm a non-smoker and they have a bigger place for us to play but mostly the slots there are tight. I have to wander to the choking hazard area just to break even.. lol

Ah no problem, we have a little program that tries to link names of casinos to their reviews here to make them easy to find when people are talking about them. In this case there just happens to be a casino called Grand Hotel so it was picked up.

They have a spa like that where I go: Grand Casino Hinckley and some cute gift shops and a hair salon, too. It has been my dream to win really BIG while staying there (for free) so I could get my first-ever professional massage. It is nice to dream. lol 🙂

The land casino Mystic Lake just did a TON of remodeling, and I can't even count the number of restaurants within that casino now.

I still like Grand Casinos (Mille Lacs and Hinckley) the best, though, because they give so much away, their promotions would be wonderful IF I lived closer so I could take advantage of them (and IF I was able to walk in, get my freebie and walk out. Otherwise, it doesn't end up being a freebie, lol). My brother lives pretty close by there and he is always driving there to get some pretty nice things! Last month you could go every week and end up with a complete bed set: sheets, comforter, etc. My problem is also with the price of gas it isn't worth it for me to make a special trip to take advantage of all the goodies.

So as I am from the winter wonderland I thought I would post about some of the lovely casinos we have here. I agree with slim that Motor City is a good one. My favorite is Little River in Manistee. Its about 3 hours from where I live but my mom and dad, brothers and wives andI usually go up there when its someone's birthday month. We are all getting comped some dollars and either free rooms or reduced pricing rooms now and we go on a Sunday where they have a little slot tourney for credits. I have never won but my brother won 200 River credits which he played thru and took home 150 so not bad for a 5 minute gig.
We have many other casinos here as well like firekeepers in battle creek, mom and dad do the bus lunch and play thing there. the comps are nice and they have a new hotel that I will be checking out shortly.
Soaring Eagle in Mt. Pleasant is fun but runs in spurts on being tight but that is only 45 minutes away so sometimes worth the travel. There are many more which I will post on later. 😉

As for Las Vegas, I always enjoy the Flamingo. I get comped to stay usually 3-5 nights( haven't been in a year so don't know if I still do) and I like the GO pool and it is centrally located. the rooms aren't grand but adequate for what we use them for. The Rio buffet is still the best I have seen so we usually ride the bus over and do an evening there.

I still say all us Midwestern members should meet somewhere in the middle and stay one or two nights at a land casino, meeting in the middle.

Would that be a fun party? Like I said before, they wouldn't know what hit 'em, lol.

'Slim, LuckyMe, LW, and and I am not sure where Ubetcha lives (I forget) or anyone else in the Midwest and ME, of course!

So who is going to plan the very first CL meet up? Then we could have reunions every now and then. I am a dreamer, lol, but it COULD be done, friends! 🙂

I live in Sydney Australia and our city only has only one Casino ( The Star ) but like a million clubs and pubs having poker machines, i used to play there a lot but lately i spent a lot more time playing online.. I owned a HighRoller card and they still send me around $300 a month in free cash vouchers ( yup no WR lol..all i have to do is turn up at a certain time at stated dates and redeem them...not bad if i just cashed and leave but as we all know that's not gonna happen lol...Oh btw..Australia has the best slot machines and we are ranked No1 in the world for average ( around $1800 ) per adult spend on gambling every year..Not sure something i should boast about but....lol

Wow! Three hundred per month is very generous. You are going to laugh, because although local casinos in my state send us offers for prizes and gives comps, etc. They only offer me FIVE DOLLARS of free play per month, lol! The don't even raise it during my birthday month, which they used to do. Then they send people who rarely go offers of thirty to fifty dollars in free play. I don't go near as often as I used to, only like six times per year or less, and they are getting VERY tight with payouts.

I am ready for a casino visit.

VisibleNinja, Are you saying they allow you to actually cash the vouchers for money without playing? I think it would be too hard to not play, especially if I had won there before. Our casino gives a $5.00 (lol) credit for new players. Maybe it depends on how much one wagers as to how much is offered back. I think they would call me the penny pincher player. 🙂

All the land based casinos around here are SO damn tight right now. Everyone was talking about it, so I know it is not just me.

On my last day, I did have fun on a Wicked Winnings. I hit a screen full of Aces which was 40 credits X 54 which ended up being $216.00 on one spin. Then I went to the machine (Wickeds) next to it and hit a nice bonus round for almost 100 bucks. Most fun I ever had on the Wickeds. Typical bonus rounds on that game are like three bucks, lol. I was betting one dollar, which I never do ,but at 50 cents NOTHING was happening, so I tried it and hit. I retriggered three or four times in that bonus round, too.

MANY people were complaining about bonus rounds in general, though. Like getting tons of spins and cobrming out with only a couple of bucks.. Sure takes the fun out of hitting the bonus when you can do better outside the bonus.

I also did okay on a nickel poker machine one night but nothing to brag about. At least it let me sit there and play a while. Most machines would take your 20 dollar bill in like five minutes not even letting people play a while.

Oh, and I played a kind of fun CSI game. Didn't win a ton, but the bonus rounds were kind of fun.

Thanks for asking!

I went to Melbourne for a wedding for a couple of days over Easter and stayed at the Crown Casino which overlooks the river through the city. And I got to see something I've never seen before - a casino that would not let people in to play! They closed the gaming floor for half a day on the morning of Good Friday, out of religious respect. I can't believe that such a token gesture would do anything to keep any of the anti-gambling religious zealots happy though, so I don't know why they bother. It was my only chance to have a play and I couldn't as I had to fly out that afternoon. Not happy Crown!

Oh, wow! That would not happen around here. In fact, someone told us the casino was PACKED on Easter Sunday of all days. Doesn't anyone stay home with their families anymore? lol

Hope you enjoyed your stay, but too bad you did not get to play. I would think they would receive more complaints than compliments for that move. 😢
