Work: Are you doing what you LOVE? (And what if....)

11 replies • Last post

Hello CL Friends,
I am a person of many interests which makes it difficult for me to focus on one thing for too long (adult ADD?). I often say that I wish I had several more lives, because so many careers and different fields strike my interest. I do love what I do, but I did not pursue my "first love." I often wish I had and even consider sometimes going after it even now.

This has me thinking that it would be fun to share: are you doing what you love? And, if you are or you are not, what would you be doing if money, skills, and education to do what you love was no object? (If you are already doing what you love, what would you do with all of the above if you had to choose a different career?). So, it would go something like this, "If I were not a zookeeper, I would be a legal secretary because....." or something like that. Make sure you start out by telling us if you are doing what you love right now or not. And, share what you do now, if you are comfortable doing so.

Sorry, you cannot say an independently weathly billionaire who sits on the couch and posts on CL all day while gambling on your favorite site This has to be something that would require skill, experience, education, and money to obtain and be a "real" career. Smile

So, are you doing what you love? And what do you really want to be when you grow up? Smile

If I wasn't an English teacher, I'd be a singer! That's my second love... but teaching is still a lot of fun! Smile

I do not particularly love what I do. If I were not a banker, I'd be a veterinarian.
I love little creatures.

Actually i love what i do and that is worth more than it's weight in gold. I sorta unleashed a talent that i never realized i had until the last year or so. I write and basically critique businesses so to speak.

I have a boss who saw something in me and gave me that opportunity. I have to admit i was very skeptical at first and really doubted i would succeed. But sometimes all it takes is for someone to push you hard enough and it will open Pandora's box.

What I love about what I do is that a few years ago I quit the office job and got away from the corporate environment which I hated, and now I work from home and get to see my wife and kids more every day. I've also managed to mix work with fun stuff like playing casino games. But its not all roses believe me...

So if I wasn't doing this, I'd be a professional sportsman. Footballer / soccer. If only I was good enough .. haha Wink

I love reading these!

For, me, it is so difficult to choose just one career, as I said before. I have so many, and vaired, interests, but I will try to only list a few. Wink

I am a special education teacher whose first love was English/Literature/Poetry/Writing. Discovered the job prospects were not as good as SPED, so between that other circumstances in my life led me to teaching SPED, there are many things I love about my job, paperwork NOT being one of them, lol.

My top THREE interests, but I do not think I would have the talent for the first one for sure would be to:
1)sing in a rock band
2)be an actress: what a fun thing to do and get paid for!
3) Be an excellent writer/poet and write for children, young adults, poetry and the great American (and international Wink ) novel.

I would LOVE to find a way to work at home and make a living just writing, writing, all the day long. I have not given up on my dream, but right now I teach high school AND college (PT) from home and online and I do feel very spoiled, especially in the winter. I dream of someday having a job where I actually have my evenings and week ends free, because right now I pretty much work around the clock....but from home (so yes, I am still spoiled).

Love having this place and a few other favorite gaming sites to take a little break, now and then.

Keep the responses coming. I love reading about what you do! Smile

Thanks! Smile

Oh, and I must mentioned, I was NOT blessed with a good singing voice, and that has always made me somewhat sad, because I have a deep love of music and a good ear. My dad was a jazz trumpet player who played with many of the "big name" jazz bands back in the day. I tried my hand at the trumpet and the piano and was in choir, years ago, but did not inherit my dad's natural talent. I really had to work hard at my lessons. Oh, and my ear is good enough to know that I should only sing in the shower and in the car.

I am very happy about what I do- I run several blogs of my interest - partly private, I have to be social, communicative, creative and smart - this is what I like to be Smile
