Super Bowl 2011?

8 replies • Last post

So it's the Steelers and the Packers. Any NFL fans out there? Any bets going for the Super Bowl on February 6th? I'm just gonna sit home and watch the game with some chips and dip. Oh and let's not forget the cold beer. It is the highlight isn't it? Beer

Last time I was in the USA I went out with some friends to watch some Monday night football at a bar and I was left wondering why an hour long game can take 4 hours to finish!

And anyone know why they call it a bowl?

But anyway, a community owned team from a town of 100,000 people that sells out a 70,000 seat stadium with fans who wear cheese on their heads ... my heart is with the Packers!

From what I've read, one of the agreements of the merger between the NFL and AFL was that a championship game would occur. It would in involve the winners of each league's championship game.

The American Football League founder and Kansas City Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt jokingly referred to the merger between the NFL and AFL championship game as the "Super Bowl". This was supposedly a play on words from the new Wham-O Super Ball his daughter played with and college "bowl" games.

It apparently wasn't meant to be a permanent name but it stuck.

Ha weird I always assumed that once upon a time they must have played for a trophy that looked like a big bowl or something. You learn something every day ...

Love the NFL games. Has to be the most exciting action packed party day of the whole year once super bowl day comes around! Which happens to be next Sunday February 6th. My team went all the way in the playoffs and was defeated by the Packers.

Needless to say its tough to put my money on the Cheese Heads. Monday FB is a big deal in the US. But i think any game that is played on TV is eat up with so many commercials it's no wonder it's 3 hours.

You're right about the commercials Usne. Also, the fact that they stop the clock whenever there is so much as a sneeze doesn't help either. LOL
