Happy Groundhog Day!

Supposedly there will be 6 more weeks of winter, but we have had the mildest winter I can ever remember, so far! Cute video of "Punxsutawney Phil."

The actual ceremony, lol:

I saw another video saying the groundhog is wrong more than he is right. I hope that statement is true! I'm ready for Spring! I still worry that we will get slammed because our weather has been so mild so far.

I know. March is our snowiest month, statistically, so I am really hoping we don't get slammed, too! Last March we had zero snow, then it came in April! 😢

March is a mixed bag for us. We never know what we will get. When is it warm (no coats) in Minnesota?

It really depends on the year, LM. We have some nice days in April, but we have also had snow in April. Usually by May we might be wearing lighter coats and sweaters. Some of our springs are nicer than others. Last year we only had two months of summer, due to a rainy spring and month of June. 😢

Isn't that groundhog the cutest on the first video? lol He is doing such an important job on the second and seems unphased by it all, lol!

Yes, he looks really tame. Even when he is chewing on the guys arm, he doesn't look serious. I bet they could really hurt you if they bit though. Maybe he has done this several times.

It sounds like a bizarre little ceremony. I did like the film with Bill Murray in it.

I hate to break it to you but it sounds like the little groundhogs are about as accurate as a tv weatherman!

Quote:

Groundhog Day proponents state that the rodents' forecasts are accurate 75% to 90% of the time. A Canadian study for 13 cities in the past 30 to 40 years puts the success rate level at 37%. Also, the National Climatic Data Center reportedly has stated that the overall prediction accuracy rate is around 39%.

Very true, but it is just "all in good fun," lol. There are so many crazy traditions out there, and this is just one more. I bet the weather forecasters are p aid much more than the poor groundhog for predicting the weather with equal accuracy, ha! 😉
