What Do You Collect?

11 replies • Last post

At the moment, I am trying not to add any more things to collect. I love old toys and have a few that I can't seem to let go of. I collect jewelry brooches and have collected them for probably 15 or more years.

What do you collect?

I don't collect specifically for making a collection. But have several coins of the rarest 1 and 2 cents of my currency. Also, I always always buy many many pens and pencils, actually I say that's for my drawings, but after that I only use black pens 😂 and have others just don't know why 😂

Years back, I collected mostly small cat figurines but for some reason I stop collecting them after I filled all spots where it belong. 😂

Another great idea for a thread, LuckyMe!

I have collected various items through the years, but I am not concentrating on any one thing anymore. Here is what I have collected at different times and collections I thought I would start and did not:

Clowns (never happened)
Snow globes (never happened)

When I was a child I had a huge collection of hats up on my closet shelf. One New Year's Eve we passed them around, when my parents were having a party, and we all wore funny hats and took pictures. 🙂

Inherited pig collection from my Aunt. She had many antique piggy banks and a really old cookie jar. Once everyone saw my pig collection they started giving me pigs, lol. They are now packed away in a box.

Inherited Betty Boop collection from my brother. I passed a lot of the items out to friends and loved ones for a memory of him for them. I still have some Betty Boop items, and I still like her, but I do not avidly collect Betty Boop. My son bought me a cute Betty Boop travel bag that I do use.

Inherited "lady head planter" collection from my brother. They are very old, but many were broken. They are so very delicate and the eyelashes and fingers break easily. I have saved the most special ones. I have seen them in antique shops from anywhere from $65.00 to $100.00. My brother named them all and put there names on pieces of tape on the bottom of the planters, lol. They are also packed away in a box right now! 😢 (I just don't have room to put anything out anymore, but I used to have them out when I had a house).

The only other thing I can think of is that I collect anything dachshund. I have an end table full of "dachsie stuff," and my middle son calls it my "Otis shrine," lol, because it includes a portrait of Otis that a friend painted for me. I have dachsie ornaments and magnets and anything else. I always welcome dachshund items. I drool over the expensive "dachsie stuff" in the catalogs.

The only thing I would really like to collect are books and children's books someday. I would say I am not an avid collector of anything. I wish I had collect GOLD a while back, lol!

That makes sense (pens). I used to collect them for the advertising. This is very interesting.

I have never known anyone who collects scarves personally. This is a great thing to collect. Are they silk or by a certain maker? I collect silk ties because I want to make a quilt of them some day. I have found a few older scarves at garage sales. Do you have garage sales there?

I actually decided to take up a couple of collections recently and find it to be quite rewarding.

I am currently collecting:

- Casino chips from land based casinos that I visit.
- Autographs from U.S. Astronauts

It is fun finding things to collect and it gives me a reason to look forward to visiting a new casino 🙂

🙂 I bought a big bag of casino chips (many duplicates) from a garage sale this year. I'm sure they aren't very old though. They were only $1.50 a bag. I looked some up online and thought I would go back and get the rest that she had but the sale was closed. 😢

The autographs from US astronauts is interesting too.

Thinking about the pens, I know my mom and dad used to collect matchbooks, as many people seem to do, because they were from many places and don't take up a lot of room. Many people collect stamps, too, but I was never into that. I remember one of my sons started collecting the U.S. quarters when they came out with the new ones. He had a U.S. map you could open and place the quarter in the hole in the state. I wish he would have kept that up and kept that, as it would also be a nice collection that didn't take up much room.

My nephew loves to draw, and I bought him art items for Christmas, and you would have thought that I bought him gold (sketch books, pens, pencils, in fact the "world's greatest pencils" it said on the box, lol and a bunch of sharpies and other markers). He was thrilled!

Autographs from astronauts is a unique and cool collection to go for! How many do you have so far Barbados?

I love the scarves of Accessorize brand <3 <3 they are of good quality and looks good too! Yeap we have garage sales here but I've never bought anything there.. 😢
