How Many Times Have You Moved in Your Lifetime?

21 replies • Last post

I will be moving within the next few months. I was thinking about all of the times I've moved. I like being in different houses and different cities sometimes. I was wondering how many times have I moved in my lifetime. It has to be close to 24 at least. How many times have you moved in your lifetime?

Wow, I have to write it all out again. Maybe tomorrow. Last time I tried that, I think it was high 30s or low 40s. I have moved WAY too much in my lifetime! 😢

I am anxious to see how many times people have moved. I bet more people move now because of jobs. I know the last 6 or 7 moves were because of jobs.

My mom has lived in the same place for over 44 or 45 years!

I've counted up and I think it has been 7 times. However most were with my parents when I was a kid. I have been in the same house now for over a decade.

That is so nice. I wish, someday, I can settle down, buy a place again and have a true "home base." 🙂

I can't wait to be in a permanent location.

Well, I wrote out a list, and I guess I lost my mind, because so far, I am getting 29 times. I am going to let the list sit a bit, then go back and check it to see if I missed any, then I will provide you with the grand total. I honestly thought it was in the 30s last time I counted, not that I WANT it to be! 😢 When I was a child, I was born in one house, then we moved three times until I left the home at the age of 16-years-old (and one of those moves was my parents moving out "into the country" then deciding they liked it better in town) so that wasn't too bad. After that is another story, lol.

One thing I AM proud of is that I always kept my boys in the same schools, for the most part. My youngest was able to graduate from the same school where he began kindergarten, and middle son third through twelfth grade, so as much as we moved, they did not have to "start over."

Well, when I move so often it helps me clear things out, but how quickly we collect again. Needless to day, I HATE moving, and I swear I get more exhausted with each move. I dread the thought, but I don't like where I am right now, either.

Funny, because EVERY single time I move, I say that I will never move again until I can afford to pay to have it done, but that never happens, lol. Even if I had the money, I would be too cheap. Moving is expensive enough without trying to pay movers on top of everything else!

Last move was the most challenging. I went from a three bedroom, two and 1/2 bath townhome down to a one bedroom apartment, and I rent NO storage! My garage has a few boxes, but mainly my bedroom is a disaster still!

So, yes I am a "pro" at moving, but I dare say I despise it. lol

One of our moves was about 25 miles away so the kids did have to go to another school. It was a nice area, but still I hated for them to have to change schools. We lived in a crowded city and then moved to a smaller, farm community town. The air was so good. There wasn't as much noise except for all the farming equipment going up and down the roads at certain times of the year.

That would be good and bad. At least you didn't have to rent a truck right? Same neighbors though.

Ok Gypsy. My mom has called me that also because I've moved a lot. Do you find that each time you move, you have more stuff? I give away stuff but I'm sure I have more stuff than when I moved here.

This time I definitely have less "stuff," because of the big downsizing, I had to.

That reminded me of my favorite George Carlin bit (in addition to the swear words one, lol) about people and their "stuff."

I watched this and he is right! There are times I wish I could sell everything I own. I would love to just get up and move, take the dog, the boyfriend, both cars and leave everything that I didn't sell. We have 55 boxes packed and still packing. That is a lot of STUFF!

Yes, LM, you do have a lot of STUFF, lol! Have you ever heard George Carlin's (RIP) "Seven Dirty Words?" OR "Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television?" That, and his "stuff" bit are his all-time funniest, IMHO. I can't find the original right now, but this is what I found on the topic:

The one cheek sneak, lol. Most of those words I hear a lot any more in movies. Times have certainly changed.
