What are some of your favorite websites?

108 replies • Last post

One of my favorite websites is www.listia.com. It is a newer site, about a year or so old. You list items that you no longer want and people bid on them with credits they have received by listing items. You can also buy credits on the site. You get credits from referring others, for checking in, for posting, for reaching goals...like so many posts, so many sales. Sometimes you get extra credits for listing specific items.

You can choose to offer free shipping, which if you do, you get extra credits. You can also have the bidder pay for shipping but you usually don't get as many credits.

I have won jewelry, dvds, gift cards, a blanket, clothing, postage stamps and lots of other items on this site. No money exchanges hands. They do have you pay $1.00 at fist to register if you want to be verified (which means more bidders) but after that no money is needed unless you want to buy extra credits.

They also have several auctions each month that are listed by Listia to show appreciation for members.
You can enter into them by bidding on them with your credits. They have cameras and other great items.

Yes, I know. It's hard not to be hooked. You were one of my referrals. 🙂

Another website I like is www.cnet.com. I have downloaded a lot of software from there. It has reviews from both the editors and users. You can tell which software is free, which is free trial and which you have to buy.

I really like appshopper.com. They let you track which apps you are interested in getting for your iphone or ipad. Then they email you if the price of the app drops so you can catch them when they have a daily sale, or even when they are given away free. The funny thing about the site is now it has its own app so I don't really have to ever visit the website any more.

I like www.stumbleupon.com A great site when you are bored and have nothing to do and a great way to find other websites.

You fill out your profile with your likes. For example, books, movies, games, politics, and the topics are truly ENDLESS. Then, you can start "stumbling." You can stumble in general or you can stumble in one of the categories you have chosen. It will bring you to a website and you can either choose "no" (or something like that) or "favorite" that site in case you want to ever go back. As you choose what you like and do not like it will continue to tailor where it brings you according to those preferences.

I haven't been there for a while, because I have kept busy elsewhere, but I have found some cool sites on Stumbleupon.

And here you go, on stumbleupon you can search everything you are interested in, perfect site for me 😀

Thanks for "seconding" my recommendation, SG. I keep hoping for some time to go on stumbleupon for a while and find some new and interesting sites. Do you agree it is a great thing to do when you are in that mood where you are bored but don't really feel like doing anything at all or anything specific?

Yeah, I agree with you, I Stumble when I don't feel like doing anything and just sitting at my comp, I stumble and stumble, thus discover many interesting things and even inspirational that motivates me to do something really valuable, for example nice drawing tips are so common on stumbleupon and so useful for a person with my level of drawing skills.

That's great, SG! I like how we can each find what our interests are and how they tailor the preferences to the individual and even as we go on it is narrowed down even more, according to our "likes." I enjoy the games category, books, movies, literature, pets and animals and so many more! Fun times! 😉

You categories coincide actually, except pets and animal,s not of my great interest. and sometimes I enjoy coocking stuff, really different and exotic recipes. It's really fun to do them with friends 😀 and sometimes I put on "all interests" and enjoy various stuff page by page 😉

Yes, I often stumble in "general" mode to see what pops up if I am not in the mood for a certain category. I was impressed with the number of categories from which to choose.

SG I always say that someone else's cooking always tastes best, so I will wait for my dinner invitation. 😉

haha 😀 I agree with you, but sometimes it's a bigger pleasure to cook yourself. I'm not good at cooking, but find it interesting and always try to make different things. I take pleasure from the process too, not only during or after eating 😀

I am the opposite. People tell me that I am a good cook, yet I don't really care to cook anymore! I think too many years of having to cook for so many, and now I am on strike! lol What are some of your favorite foods to cook, SG? I love Italian dishes and much more. 🙂

Hope, I tried the stumble website and found this one. http://www.stumbleupon.com/su/18VURR/www.toxel.com/inspiration/2011/01/0...

I love the camera necklace. The origami swan I love but think it would hurt to wear it...lol. The big flower is just geeky. The razor necklace? It's a fun website.

Is dummies.com from the people who do the "for dummies" books or something else? I will have to check these out sometime soon. Thanks for sharing! 🙂

Here are a couple of sites that my middle son shared with me:

http://boingboing.net/

They are posting about Robert Anton Wilson (RAW) week, here and on other sites, so if you are a fan, check it out! There is also an interview with his daughter that was posted during RAW week.

Another cool site from middle son:

You are welcome, LM. I think there are many video blogs, or at least videos on disinfo. I like both sites, and I think you will, too, because you and my son like similar things on the net. 🙂

The 'make me smile' thread reminded me of this website. I could search around for hours. There are videos by movie and TV stars and also vids uploaded by amateurs who just want to share. Youngest son actually has some of his stuff up on this site under his account (but I am not telling, lol). If you are bored, need a 'cheer-up,' and just want to laugh, go here:

One more if you are bored:

Back for one more, as I just posted about this in the "Read any Good Books Lately?" thread. This website is for those who are interested in true-crime. This is the most extensive library I have ever found online, on this topic. There are stories about every crime you can imagine, article length (well even longer) stories on every serial killer you can think of, links to books and crime writers and even links to TV shows/other videos. If you have any interest, at all, in true crime, you can find it ALL right here:
