What are some of your newbie gambling mistakes?

21 replies • Last post

I am new to online gambling. I like to play the free games so I don't make mistakes. The other day I thought I was bidding 25 cents, but I was really bidding $4.50 a spin. It took me a couple of turns to notice it. 😒

At first I couldn't get the bonus money at the casinos. I didn't realize I had to click on "cashier" and then enter the casinolistings.com code. It's easy once one knows what to do but might be a problem for a newbie.

For newbies, I will also suggest that you "play for fun" before depositing any money into a casino. If you like the casino then you can deposit money.

Just click on the the BONUSES category above, then click on NO DEPOSIT CASINO BONUSES. You will have to fill out your name and address but you don't have to deposit any of your own money to play.

Also I would suggest doing a screenshot of your wins. To do a screenshot just hit the CTRL button plus the PRTSC (printscreen) button together. You can then paste your screenshot into the PAINT program.

I'm sure most of you know how to do this. I'm just trying to help those who may not know.

This has to do with Land Casinos. I have accidentally hit "max bet" when the button is next to "repeat last spin," and when that happens I almost have a heart attack. Why couldn't I, JUST ONCE, WIN when I make that mistake? lol But that never happens. 😒

I've done that before too and it made me sick. I think I put in $20 and it was gone in one or two spins. I guess that's why I like to practice first on the free machines.

I was also doing a game with a guaranteed spin or something like that. I had made a lot of spins and was like about 25% of the way there when I changed the bid amount. That started the countdown to the spin thing over again. Grrrrrrrrrrr.......I didn't know.

That is why you are smart to play in the free mode and get to know the games, LM! I did NOT do that when I started. Instead, I used the no -deposit bonuses to become familiar with the different casinos.

I was sitting next to this woman, at the land casino again, and I went to point to something on her machine, and my finger accidentally hit "max spin" on HER machine. OMGosh, I was so darn embarrassed and shocked at myself that I would do that. She LAUGHED and insisted it was okay, and she wouldn't let me pay her the money for that spin, though I tried and tried. I know that could have gone a different way depending upon the person, so I was so relieved, yet I still wanted her to take the money (It was like 2.50!).

I have made the mistake of not following blackjack strategy, thinking that luck is on my side. More often than not, I fail and kick myself in the tail every time. I've gotten better at this, but it was a big newbie mistake of mine.

Lesson: ALWAYS follow your blackjack strategy sheet!

I do that too. I guess I need to stop doing that. I think also when I win a good amount, I need to walk away or as in online machines, pick another machine.

Well, I haven't done it that often, lol, but when I do I get so angry with myself. All that money wasted on ONE spin! Yikes! πŸ˜• :'(

I think this is a great idea. I only take a certain amount of money with me when I go to the land casinos. Sometimes the money goes quickly, other times I can play on it for hours.

I think that is a great idea for those who can do that. Those who cannot may have a problem. I have known people who just BEG family members for more and more money, because they are convinced that their big win is "right around the corner" and they will win it all back. This can be very sad.

My brother has a good name for when a person spends more than they planned. He says it is walking out of the casino with "the brick in the gut." lol I am sure that is what that would feel like. I have spent a LITTLE more than I planned before, but never my rent or bill money!

I think those who have a feeling that the next big win is right around the corner may have a gambling problem. I think it's fine if you budget for casino play. It's a form of entertainment. But to depend on it for a way of income, unless you are a professional at some of the table games, is deluding yourself. I play for fun. Most of the time I lose but I have one several times too. That's the fun of it.

I really do proofread what I write before I hit submit but I see I typed one instead of won. I must start another thread where we only use the wrong spelling of things. lol

Oh geez. This has me cracking up. I bet it's harder to spell wrong that it is to spell right. It would be fun to see what people are really trying to say when they spell wrong.

I share that poem with my students to stress that spell check is your FIRST step, followed by our own, careful proofreading, lol. That poem will usually get my point across.

It seems to me that people either "get" spelling or they don't. I have two very "close to me" family members who have always spelled phonetically. It is a wonder that anyone can spell with our confusing language. We have tons of rules for spelling then a ton more instances where we have to break those "rules." I can imagine how confusing that is for learners who already struggle.

I used to be great at spelling all of my life until I stopped working. I don't use my vocabulary as much and am forgetting how to spell sometimes. I have to look words up now for the correct spelling. Use it or lose it.

Ain't that the truth. Trying to help my daughter learn to read and I come across a word like "enough" and I curse whoever invented the English language!
