What is your biggest "Pet Peaves?"

24 replies • Last post

Hello again, Everyone!

I am thinking of Pet Peaves tonight. What are some of your greatest, "Pet Peaves?" What drives you absolutely crazy? I know we all have those little annoyances, day in day out, or even once in a while? I am interested in hearing what drives you crazy, so here is your chance to @itch, whine, and moan, lol. Vent away!

A few off the top of my head:

SLOW drivers in the fast lane. Yikes! MOVE the heck over!

Drivers who SPEED UP when you finally decide to pass them. WTHeck are you trying to PROVE, anyway?

People who pick their nose in public, or in their cars. Get a tissue already! How difficult can it be? You think that no one is looking or do you just NOT CARE?

I KNOW I will think of more, but now I am waiting to hear YOURS.

Here is your chance to let it all out! 🙂

Oops! I just noticed my bad grammar and spelling (I am appalled! Yikes!), and I apologize (Is that anyone's PET PEAVE, lmbo!). I was first going to write, "What is your biggest Pet Peave?" (singular) when I decided NO ONE could have just one, so at the last second, I changed it to the plural form, "Peaves," neglecting to change the "is" to "are." I then further murdered the title by misspelling the very word, "PEEVES."

I don't think I can edit my title, can I CL-Ed? So, I am stuck showing how being distracted (posting while watching a movie, lol) resulted in my poor grammar and spelling.

GOOD GRIEF! 😢

Now, I am going to bed! Try again tomorrow, lol.

Good night, all! 🙂

Yeah... one of my biggest pet peeves is bad spelling and grammar! 😂 😂 😂

People who don't know the difference between then and than, their and there, your and you're, lose and loose, and the worst one of them all, peeves and peaves!

Just kidding! But I think we should leave the title as is for a bit of hilarity!

As for nose picking ... I don't mind a good pick. Sometimes you can dig out a bit of treasure that blowing just can't dislodge! Everyone loves a good pick now and then! But I do agree that you don't want to see someone in there up to their knuckle when you're out and about.

Anyway let me see, some of my pet peeves in no particular order:

Idiots in their cars who open their doors without looking right when I am riding by on my bicycle. And then to make it even worse they abuse me when I narrowly avoid going head first through their open door window!

Picking a line at the supermarket checkout or ticket window etc. The shortest line is fools' gold! I am a master at picking the line that takes the longest, even if I find the shortest line. There's always going to be someone who daydreams for 5 minutes then decides they can't find their wallet when it's their turn. Or they have some obscure question no-one knows the answer to. Or they picked the item off the shelf that won't scan. Whatever it is, when I am in the line you can be guaranteed that it will take ages.

And of course casino related ... drawing a 2 or 3 when I double down in blackjack.

CL-Ed! Thanks so much for making me spit my coffee out onto my computer screen. That was really fun, lol! OMG, so I get to be the brunt of the joke? Okay. I can take it. Chalk it up to a VERY blonde moment, if you must. As for picking your nose....OMG, more coffee!

I know what you mean about lines! And I wish I had some smart comeback about anything you posted, but I do not, because I am still trying to wake up and recover from your words. I will be back. 😉

Hi Hope, great thread , regardless the title LOL !

One of my biggest pet peeves is when somebody famous dies and the rest of people start praising and adoring him/her! This drives me crazy! This is the first one I could think of.

One more thing is when somebody uses my own things! i.e Pc, clothes, accessories and sometimes even footware- guess you could that somebody be ? My dearest Sister ! 😈

Thank you, GM! I am still walking the hall of shame, lol. Thank you for being more sympathetic than someone else we both know. haha! Fortunately, I can take it. 😉

I like your Pet PEEVES! I know what you mean about people worshiping someone who has passed, even if they didn't pay attention to them in life. All of a sudden this person means the world to them, and/or was a "perfect" person. I hear ya!

I don't have a sister, so I don't have to put up with someone borrowing anything, but you reminded me of another Pet Peeve, and that is when someone wants to borrow something but doesn't ask. Instead they say, "Give me one of those." I am talking about my neighbor in my apt. building. Thankfully, she only stops by every one to three months, but still it bugs me to know end that she doesn't ask nice OR say please or thank you!

Hi hope, the someone else we both know is trying to ignore your comment not to appear even more unsympathetic 😂

I agree so much about the neighbors, sometimes they manage to play on our nerves like no one else can do....

This. Not just famous people, but anyone. Everyone seems to become the greatest human being to have ever walked the earth after they die.

My pet peeve for today ... I go and buy a baby seat for my bike and when I am assembling it I find that they did not include enough screws to attach it to the rack on my bike. How hard is it to include all the bits you need in the box?!?!?

It's the first time I've explored the non-casino related chats on this site, and this one seems particularly tempting today. (I.e. I'll get the pet peeves out of my system now so I can focus on being thankful tonight!)

Some random pet peeves in no particular order:

Totally agree regarding drivers who speed up as soon as you pass them (then when you finally give up and allow them to pass you, so that you can change lanes and make your exit, they slow down again to match your speed). I'd also add people who don't use their turn signals...or who leave them on indefinitely! Or drivers who refuse to turn right on red. (Road rage much?)

When people say "supposably" instead of "supposedly." Or think they're using good grammar when they say replace "me" with "I" in virtually any part of a sentence. (There are times when "me" IS the correct usage!)

Answering the phone to an automated voice asking me to hold.

The case of the missing socks. (How do I accumulate so many without a match?)

People who take forever and a day to get to their cars, get settled, and pull away when others are obviously waiting for the parking space.

When my computer/iphone tries to think for me (autocorrect, random installations, etc.)

Casino (or really any business) reps that are all too happy and responsive when it comes to taking your money and welcoming you in, but suddenly fall off the face of the earth when there is a problem.

Misleading GPS systems that direct you on a wild goose chase, then gleefully announce "you have arrived!" in the middle of a freeway, trailer park, or abandoned road. (Ok, so this only happened once, but it made an impression!)

And apologies in advance to anyone whose pet peeve is overuse of parentheticals or exclamation points!

Hahah this got me on a trip to the U.S. years ago. I didn't know it was legal as we can only do that here (well its a left turn but same idea) if there is a specific sign saying you can. So keep the gun under your seat because they might be just an ignorant tourist! 😉

lol, CL-Ed. I try my best to be understanding with drivers, because I have made some stupid mistakes out there on the road, but there are some that you just have to wonder how they obtained a driver's license. I have "spaced out" at stoplights, then realized that I could turn and felt a little blonde, lol. For the most part, I believe I am a good driver, but then we probably all believe that.

Another pet peeve is my neighbors downstairs, who decide to bump their music, thus sharing their favorite selections with me as my entire living room shakes. They interrupt my reading, watching movies, and even my work, because most of my work is done from home. One night, I had a headache from their bass. Now, I like and appreciate music as much as the next person, but the bump, bump, bumping drives me nuts. And I have given up in even bothering to call security, because it never does any good, anyway! Grrrrrrrrrr! I try to be considerate, but seems no one has common courtesy anymore and only concentrate on themselves. I know their are exceptions to that rule, but seems fewer and fewer.

CL-Ed, this reminds me of another pet peeve. To me, it seems that no one knows how to do their jobs anymore, these days (now, do I sound like an "old fogey" or what? lol but I believe this to be TRUE). The customer is no longer right, either. I believe this is due to everything being automated now, too. If you have a problem or issue you have to call and press a trillion numbers before you can talk to a person, then if you have to call back (if problem they led you to believe was solved was not) they have no record of what you talked about or what that person promised you and you have to start all over again. They don't care how they treat you OR if they lose you as a customer, because we are no longer people...we are numbers.

I also noticed that most cashiers and clerks are very lazy and apathetic and have little knowledge of how they are supposed to treat people or what their jobs are supposed to be. Very sad. I firmly believe that customer service, in person and by phone, has gone deeply downhill. Pet Peeve.

Can anyone relate to this one?

People who talk on their cell phones/blue tooths, (blue teeth? lol!) as if they are having a conversation with a person in the room. I don't like to be an eavesdropper, but sometimes I just cannot help it, because they are talking so long. This drives me crazy in stores, restaurants, and also at the airport. On time at the airport, I was hearing four different people's conversations at once, and some of it appeared to be very personal. No wonder the "young people" prefer texting. At least it is quieter, lol.

Anyone else driven crazy by this?

I agree to some extent. But you know what also annoys me? People who think that because they are customers they are entitled to be treated like royalty even when they are in the wrong. I used to work in an office across from a dweeb who used to delight in phoning his mobile company or internet provider and having a whinge about something every few weeks or so. And afterwards he would laugh and tell his workmates about how he stuck it to the man. But in reality he was just an annoying dweeb who enjoyed being a smart-arse and making others feel bad! End rant.. aaah that feels better!

Oh yeah. Keep it to yourself. I don't need to hear your life story or your bedroom adventures from the night before.

Reminds me of an ingenious invention I saw on a train in Switzerland once. A quiet carriage. If you sat in there you were not permitted to talk or make phone calls. Lovely.

CL-ED! I like that invention! A quiet carriage. The older I get, the more I am becoming a "crabby old woman," and the more I enjoy "quiet," lol!

Which reminds me of another "Pet Peeve!" Parents who do not watch their children. I used to go down to my apartment pool in the summer. There was a hot tub, and that was the ONLY place where I could go where it was clearly marked, with a sign with HUGE letters, adults only! Well, parents would allow their kids to go jump in the hot tub and turn their backs, then management would come out and get them all out and as soon as management went back in, the kids would pile in again. I told management they should have a couple of "adults only" nights at the pool, but that fell on deaf ears. Which is why I don't bother to go down there anymore (for the past two summers). Plus, the "public" part of the pool and hot tub, especially with all the kids kind of freaks me out, lol. I have nothing against children, but parents who turn their backs on their kids and expect ME to do something about it? I have NO patience for that, because I actually took care of my own children while raising them (and, no, they were not perfect, but I was still the parent!).

Whew. That felt good, lol!

I have lots of pet peeves.
1. My first one is pet peeves lists. (joking)
2. Drivers who slow down at stop signs instead of stopping, even when they see me coming and then I have to slow down.
3. Walking into "fart air" at a store. Not breather friendly.
4. People who stare or park next to me when I want to be by myself.
5. Dog owners who are too lazy to pick up poop. I clean up after my dog so you should clean up after yours.
6. People who are mean to pets or people who jerk their dog across the room.
7. People who don't acknowledge that they got the gift I sent.
8. Neighbors who purposely throw trash into my yard.
9. Neighbors who buy their kid a drum set for Christmas.
10. Going to an emergency room for treatment and the doctor spends less than a minute with me. (recently happened)

I feel better now. 🙂

Elevator "fart air" is not good either and then you are stuck. Then the next people getting onto the elevator look at you like you were the farter......lol.

They throw things over like cups or wrappers. It's small stuff but it's done on purpose. That's what peeves me. They are also the neighbors who think it's perfectly fine to hammer or sing or being noisy any hour of the night.

I guess I need to start a thread about good neighbors to counteract this one. 🙂

I love your emoticons. I stick up for helpless animals, too, when I see the owners not treating them right. They have no voice, and they are so loveable, loyal, and innocent, and NO ONE should EVER take advantage of that love and loyalty!!! 😢

Lol, My neighbors would have a fit I'm sure if we played music really loud. We are very quiet though. I use to worry about letting my dogs out at night and calling them. I was afraid I would disturb the neighbors. I only have one dog now but I don't worry about calling him in at night.

They have done a lot of other things, like steal our firewood. I will just be happy when we can move!

What is with all the bad neighbors in this thead? Wow. I live in an apartment and our neighbors do fight, sometimes, and many do not pick up the dog poop, all around the building. I blame management for this, too, because they do nothing about this except come up with stupid, ineffective plans to stop it, so everyone ignores them and just keeps leaving their dogs' messes.

They are pretty much the only bad neighbor that is close. The lady on the other side of me is very quiet. I rarely even know she is home. Most of the other neighbors are ok too, so I guess one bad neighbor out of the whole neighborhood isn't too bad. I just wish they didn't live next door.
