Does Anyone Own An iPad?

35 replies • Last post

I am usually an early adopter of any Apple product. I love the company and have had a variety of their products over the years including iBooks, iMac, three iPods, etc.

I am considering getting a refurbished iPad 2 (I have good luck with refurbished goods as I take care of my stuff) and am wondering if anyone on this site has one and your opinions on the device. I have lots of friends around here, but nobody owns one, and I can only read so many reviews where I can't ask questions.

So: Do you have an Ipad? What do you think, and what apps would you recommend?

I don't but I have a friend who owns four! And he won't give me one. Sheesh! 😂

My wife wants one but its hard to justify seeing as we have a laptop which can do all the web surfing you need while sitting on the lounge / bed / wherever.

I agree re the refurb - its a great way to save a bit of money because you usually can't find Apple stuff discounted anywhere. And you usually get the same warranty.

Can't help with ipad specific apps, but I do have an iphone. I would guess that its going to be far better than an iphone for web surfing, reading books and magazines etc. Two sites I check often are appshopper.com and toucharcade.com. App Shopper lets you make a list of apps you are interested in and they will email you whenever the price changes, so you can catch the daily sales when you can get an app for free or 99c instead of say $5 if you wait. Touch Arcade has game reviews.

I wish I owned one! One iPAd will be quite enough for me, what an unfairness, someone owns four, while I dream of owning one 😢 LOL I seem to be complaining a lot these days and I am sorry for this 😂 But I can not hide my emotions when it comes to iPad 2

Here in the States they have a website that acts as a refurb site for BestBuy. Right now they are selling Gen1 iPads starting at $320...I am really debating getting a Gen1 or waiting a few months for the Gen2 which will be priced that way...

Hard choices I tell ya. I would love to have one to keep up with things while my wife hogs the laptop.

Does the website only serve customers fro the US or may I also buy items there? I am from Georgia (Southern Europe).

I suggest you wait a little bit if you're sure the Gen2 which will be priced that way, as rapid technology changes alter our needs day by day...

I don't have an iPad, just an iPod . I am happy with my iPod and I am not sure if I will buy a new iPad. What do you think is the benefits since I have my netbook already?

I like the fact that Apple products "just work". I have never seen quality like an Apple product before in terms of personal electronics. I personally would get an iPad because there are so many neat things I could do, like stream Netflix to my kids in the car, use apps to edit video, and basically just have around for an effective web browser while my wife hogs the laptop!

Despite the advantages barbadosslim93 listed, I think iPad's most important feature is its construction- slim, light and beautiful! And as for its functions- the greatest one for web browsing!

What country are you from Tiberius? In the States our phones are subsidized into our contracts. My Verizon contract is up in December and my iPhone 4S will run me a grand total of $150-199. The only bad thing is the lack of 4G coverage. I could do with some 22Meg down speed!

Hey guys, here is a joke for you 😂 We all know that iPhone 4S brought the new feature SIRI, which hears, understands and fulfills our commands. But in Georgian "Siri" means quite a bad word - see this : http://gizmodo.com/5846920/siri-is-also-the-georgian-word-for-penis > It seems we will now see Apple together with Coca Cola and GM, in International Business case studies 😂

Haha that reminds me of a four wheel drive that Mitsubishi used to sell called the Pajero. In Spanish that means wanker.

LOL the same was for Coca Cola in China, the name in Chinese means "bite the wax tadpole" or "female horse stuffed with wax" 😂 And for GM, they introduced a new car called No Va in Spanish speaking countries, which means 'no go' in Spanish 😂

I'm from Georgia too and I thing that the prices of Ipad, Iphone and etc. are so high in our country 😢 and there are no contracts or stuff like that which could help us to buy Apple products. And I don't think in Georgia it's just foolish to pay 1000 USD for a phone, even it's I one 😂

Here is my opinion about such a common saying : three apples changed the world- one that Eve ate, second the Newton's falling apple and the third of Steve Jobs. I should admit that the first one is not a reality, second is a myth and the third is overpriced!

I'm glad that you liked it 😂 I do believe that Steve Jobs did change the world to a better one, but the products are significantly overpriced and that's the reality!

I do not have an illusion of $10 Apple products, but I'm sure if they costed a little bit less, much more profits would be generated from iTunes and App Store!

There are many ways to make a profit, and selling massive volume at a cheap price is only one. Selling massive volume at a premium price is even better and that seems to be what they have managed for the past few years. They generated $28 billion in revenue last quarter and made a $6.5 billion profit, so I don't think they are struggling to make a profit.

The itunes store had revenue of $1.5 billion last quarter. You have a strange definition of "no-one".

This site has some nice charts that illustrate just how much money this company makes. It is ridiculous.

Ed, Amazon is going to be entering the tablet market with that Kindle Fire you have seen me post about. It is definitely following the method of selling vast quantities at a low price as it going to market at $199 US.

They are banking on having users give up a few of the perks of the iPad for a $300 savings. I myself am torn, but really am a BIG fan of both Amazon and Apple. I could definitely see myself going Prime and side loading my Netflix App to the Kindle and having nice tablet. Reportedly the Kindle Fire was selling at a rate of 2,000 per hour. That little beauty could make things interesting in the tablet market for sure...

Apple now has more cash on hand than the U.S. Government and it is because of their great strategy of selling at a premium price point while finding additional sources of revenue (iTunes, App Store, Geeks who will stand in line for a small upgrade to an already solid product 😉 ). So I think people are definitely using it. I do.

Both companies are great and I cannot wait to see them duke it out in the near future. Will we see an iPad price drop? It doesn't seem to be Apple's style to do that, but they haven't competed against a company with distribution control like Amazon in the current market...

Oh, btw Ed, you should develop a Casino Listings app!

I think you're pretty much spot on with what you're saying there. However I don't think that Amazon will necessarily cannibalise iPad sales as much as people are expecting due to their very different positioning strategies. They may very well end up selling to a totally different market segment, although someone like yourself suggests that there is some overlap.

Also its highly likely that Amazon is selling the new Kindle at a loss as in the hope that it will serve as a portable store in people's homes. That is the main thing they are competing on - being the dominant player in the sale of electronic movies, music and books.

I missed that comment on a CL app. It has been suggested before but I'm not sure there's a big demand for such a thing as these devices already do a great job of displaying the website. Maybe a dedicated app that would let you log in and post to the forums would be good?

I think kindle Fire won't be a success as it has limited app capabilities, as only amazon app store is available. Despite that, it seems to be something between a Kindle for reading and an iPad, but does not serve neither reading function (the display is not one of Ink Pearl, but Vibrant Color IPS) nor the tablet functions as the apps are limited for it.
