I agree about The Beatles! I should admit that the only exception about committing suicide in my case would be if I had been alive when John Lennon was shot.....

Edith Piaf πŸ™‚ Another my favourite artist. She is not very popular nowadays, thus I think everybody has listened the remakes of her songs, in most cases as soundtracks of the movies.
She has the most Adorable voice!

I am reading a good book right now about Music Therapy. Jodi Piccoult's "Sing Me Home." So far it is interesting and just okay, but she is a very popular author.

As far as music: eclectic tastes here from hard rock to some rap to classical to jazz. I love it all!

Some favorites off the top of my head are:

Pink Floyd
Earth Wind and Fire
Rolling Stones
Beattles
Doors
Newer:
Brandy Carlisle
Bright Eyes
Death Cab for Cuties
Cloud Cult

More:
John Hiatt
BoDeans
Sara Mclachlan
Cheryl Crow
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Elton John
Eric Clapton
Billy Joel

WAY too many to list, but that is a start, lol

I could go on forever and ever, lol.

And what about classics? Do you love them?

I love Carmen by Verdi and my one of the favourite composers is Robert Schumman.

I too enjoy classic music, but I not always feel like listening to it. I usually listen to it while I'm on a somewhat pessimistic mood, or when I'm studying (I'm usually on a pessimistic mood while studying LOL) Anyway, I think classic music helps me to remember things better... My favorite composes are Antonio Vivaldi and Johann Sebastian Bach (a bit banal, but I can not escape their power .... )
My all time favorite composition is The Contest between Harmony and Invention- part of which is Four Seasons and air on a G string by Bach......

I've read recently about the power of classic music. Actually I recommend Mozart for remembering things. It was proved by several experiments that it is the best for remembering things. You are right with your consideration that they help you in this field, scientists say the same πŸ™‚

However, classic music sometimes prevents me from good remembering and studying, as I become distracted by the thoughts they arouse in me πŸ˜€ Actually, concentration is not my strongest point πŸ˜‚

I agree about concentration. As for some modern classic composers, I just don't know whether "classic" is the exact word for Yiruma, but I like his music very much. Have you heard of him? I like his light music, it always makes me calm and I think is very pleasant sound to hear.. He is a pianist too, always perform his own compositions.. My favorites are Maybe and Kiss the rain...

I've heard about him, but not listened. I love Gershwin and Bernstein. They are not very modern, but not as olds like Mozart, Beethoven and etc. Rhapsody in Blue and Summertime are chef d'oeuvres and America of Bernstein. Genial!

I've listened to both Gershwin and Bernstein compositions you've mentioned, and they're actually GENIAL!

You should try out some Yiruma music too, although they're much lighter than what we've listed above, but actually the melody is nice and quite pleasant to listen to

When I was young, 12-15 (10 yrs ago) I would listen to my Dad's music collection, which was recorded from vinyl to tape, I preferred listing to all the old music than what was in the charts. This consisted of The Beatles, Queen, Elton John and Madonna's 80s stuff. I still prefer old music to new music but I do like Arcade Fire and Sigur Ros.

My two favorite bands are the Foo Fighters and Incubus. I am actually listening to some Foo as I type this up! I also am big into classic rock and love Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and so on.

I think I have commented in earlier threads that I enjoy almost everything, including rap, blues, and the occasional country song. You name it, and its on my iPod...Eminem, Gorillaz, Rolling Stones, Johnny Cash, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Velvet Revolver, Weezer, Ted Nugent...the list goes on and on!

I think you will quite like Sigur Ros, have you listened to them ? They're from Iceland, I watched their open air live performances, I just can not express my impressions with words, the situation is so amazing! green grass, a lot of people with their children sitting and enjoying the brilliant melodies of Sigur Ros..

I have listened Sigur Ros recently after your recommendation and really liked them. They are ideal for those open air situations you have mentioned above. i think I would listen more of them while drawing or for relaxation, very interesting
