Old School Candy

18 replies • Last post

Candy for kids these days is just not the same as when I was a kid. There was nothing like those little Neapolitan coconut candies by Brachs. And remember those Styrofoam like ice cream cones with the foam ice cream on top. Candy buttons, lemon heads, and mild maids were so good but my absolute favs had to be the flying saucers, sweet tart jewelry and jaw breakers .

What were your favorites?

I have never heard of a single one of those! Must be American only...

I love lollies (we don't call them candy in oz). Pineapples, snakes, gummy bears, chocolate buds ... yum. I go to birthday parties with my kids and end up standing next to the lolly bowl eating them like a kid. One of my favourites when I was a kid were the totally inappropriately named Redskins, complete with a picture of an Indian chief on the wrapper. They are hard red sticks that become really stick-your-teeth-together chewy when you suck on them for a bit and you can stretch them out to amazing lengths. Yum...

Me too, I've never heard of any of those listed by Usne, they're definitely American only... But one friend of mine from US brought her fav. candy for us about a month ago, it was a peanut butter covered with milk chocolate and the taste was miraculous- salty inside with delicate sweet ... I do not remember the brand name but is was superb.. Maybe you know any brand producing that piece of delight? I'd gladly absorb tones of that if I knew the name 😂

That sounds like Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. The packaging is orange. Does that ring a bell playborne?

I loved (and still do) sour patch kids. Basically take any gummy and cover in sour goodness. 😍

Now, I can't get enough Cadbury chocolate. The cream eggs are delish! In the U.S.
we could only get them at Easter but in the UK we have them all year long.

Reese's=crack. They are SO addictive and a favorite among everybody I know. I myself liked Warheads, Circus Peanuts and Candy Cigarettes. Warheads were sour, Circus Peanuts were mashmellow, and Candy Cigarettes were just all around cool.

Too bad that everyone went politically correct and you can't find the candy cigarettes any more. How about Hi-C Ecto Cooler drink with Slimer on the juice box? Those things were rad!

Ah warheads! We had those. I got introduced to them like every other kid - a "friend" offers you an unwrapped lolly from a paper bag, you put it into your mouth and spit it out a few seconds later! Fun times! I actually liked the sour ones once the sour went away, but the chilli ones were nasty.

Candy cigarettes... how's this for being doubly politically incorrect - they used to be called "fags" here (British and Aussie slang for cigarettes). Look what I found: http://www.handycandy.co.uk/chocolate-cigarettes-p-156.html

The other one I just thought of was called Wizz Fizz. It was a little bag of suspicious looking white powdered sherbet that had a little plastic spoon inside that you ate it with. Delicious.

thanks for your reply but I google searched it and not the one I've described. Reese's Peanut Butter Cups are larger in size than those, they looked like small pieces of chocolate... and were in blue packaging as far as I remember......

I miss the old giant sweet tarts.

Also used to get dark green licorice at a place we called the "Green Store," when we were kids. First stop on allowance day was their candy counter, and the owner actually lived in the back of the little store/house. The licorice was mint flavored, and I loved it, but haven't seen it since a child.

Black jacks chewy licorice taffy was good, too, as were chico stix (don't like them now!) and those little wax soda bottles with gross liquid inside, lol. I loved the concession stand at my brother's Little League games. And, yes, I was a chubby child and still have a sweet tooth that puts me to shame. I am not overweight, but I do have to watch my intake of sugar.

Mine were metro and some stuff with stickers, just don't remember the name. It was the first thing which had stickers inserted and was very adorable.
I just remembered of Love and Big Babol gums 😀)

This is not old, but I LOVE Lindt chocolate bars. Milk chocolate or white chocolate or the Lindt balls. Hard chocolate on the outside and creamy on the inside. I am seriously craving one right now.
