Review of Princess Star Casino
Launched in 2014, Princess Star Casino is part of the Princess International group, a company that owns and operates hotels and are one of the largest land based casino networks with almost 40 casinos scattered across Eastern Europe, The Caribbean, Africa, and Central and South America. The casino features slots and table games from developers that I had not seen before, which is something of a rarity and a pleasant surprise. Read on to find out what I liked and disliked about this somewhat unique online casino.
Software and game selection
The casino games at Princess Star are provided by game developers Amatic Industries and SoftSwiss, and in recent times they have added popular games from Net Entertainment. While new to me, I am assured that the slot machines from Amatic will be instantly recognisable to land based players from Eastern Europe and Central America in particular. There is considerable variety in their reel layouts, payline structure and features, and many of them seem to be almost clones of popular games from other manufacturers. For example, Eye of Ra offers an Egyptian themed 720 way slot with a near identical reel layout to IGT's Siberian Storm, Dragon's Pearl is an Asian inspired 50 liner with stacked wilds (which incidentally I found can pay off big time in the free spins round), while Royal Unicorn is a pretty standard looking 20 liner. Others such as Book of Aztec, Book of Fortune, and Billyonaire feature the same wild symbol bonus rounds as found in Book of Ra and Lord of the Ocean from Novomatic.
The quality of the Amatic slots ranges from simple looking, without the graphical bells and whistles that I have come to expect after being spoiled by games from the likes of Microgaming, IGT, or Net Entertainment, through to quite attractive indeed. However they all have the same basic set of sound effects, the repetition of which quickly had me reaching for the mute button. But it is not all bad news as the light nature of the games means that they load extremely quickly and cache in your browser should you want to come back to one that you have been playing recently. There are also a set of slot machines from SoftSwiss, and on the whole I found these games to be more modern and graphically appealing. The pick of the bunch for me was Desert Treasure, an Arabian themed 9 liner in which you can win up to 50 free spins with all wins tripled, In all there are around 30 slot machines to choose from.
The table games are mostly provided by SoftSwiss. There are plenty to choose from including Blackjack and Baccarat, both of which can be played in multi-player mode if you like, one of my favourite games Hi-Lo Switch, Trey Poker, Caribbean Stud, Casino Hold'em, Oasis Poker, and several versions of Roulette, among others. Each game is presented from a pseudo-3d perspective, viewed through your eyes as if you were sitting at the table rather than the bird's-eye view often used by other developers. The graphics are sharp and detailed and there are dealer voice-overs. At first I found the dealer's voice hard to understand as she speaks English quickly with an indeterminate Eastern European accent, but after a couple of minutes I got used to it. For a laugh, I tried switching the site language over to see if the voiceovers changed too. They did when I chose Russian (and she sounded authentic to my non-Russian understanding ears), but she continued to speak English when I switched to German and Spanish, so your experience my vary depending on your preferred language.
Banking and support options
You can transact to and from your account, and play at Princess Star Casino using US Dollars or Euros, and you can set your account up to maintain balances in either or both of these currencies at the same time. The set of deposit and withdrawal methods is good, with the casino accepting Skrill, Neteller, Credit Cards, Paysafecard, Bitcoin, and bank transfers. You can withdraw back to your credit card (bank permitting) or use Skrill or Neteller to cash out, and each withdrawal has a €/$1 fee. I made a withdrawal of €100, and I was asked to submit documents for identity verification. I submitted documents on a Friday and they were not approved until the next Wednesday, which is far too long even if, as I suspect, no-one is checking them over the weekend. On a positive note I was pleased to find that I could upload my documents to my account on the website via a secure SSL connection rather than forwarding them around via email. The money was then paid to my Skrill account by the following Friday.
Customer support is handled via live chat or email, but there is no telephone support option. I chatted to a support rep and asked a couple of basic questions about the bonus policy. Even though it was the middle of the night in Europe at the time, support was online and available which was good to see.
Security, fairness, and responsible gaming
Princess Star Casino runs under an industry standard encrypted SSL connection that keeps your transactions and gameplay private. The casino holds an e-gaming license from the Government of Curacao. I was unable to find any information concerning the payout rates of the games at this casino. The paytables in the game themselves do not reveal the RTP values, nor do the game help files on the website. Neither does the casino appear to publish any monthly payout audits, and it does not appear to even claim to be audited.
If you feel the need to exclude yourself from playing at Princess Star, you must contact the casino via support and specify a time frame. The casino promises to exclude you from logging in for the requested timeframe, and also to exclude you from any promotional emails. There are no self exclusion, deposit limit, or time limit controls available in your account though.
Your satisfaction with this casino is going to depend heavily on your familiarity with both the Princess Group's land based operations and the slots from Amatic Industries. If you are familiar and comfortable with either of those two then the casino is worth a look, while for other players, it depends on how curious you are to try these game that you have not played elsewhere. When you consider the weak licensing jurisdiction, the lack of RTP numbers or independent assurance that the games are fair, it is difficult to rate this casino in the top echelon until we see it in operation for a longer period of time.
