Review of No Bonus Casino
No Bonus Casino is an online casino operated by L&L Europe, a company which also runs several other casinos that are generally targeted to specific countries or regions, such as All British Casino and All Australian Casino. This one, as you can probably guess by the name, aims squarely at players that are not interested in casino bonuses and the associated rules and restrictions. Instead the casino promotes a cash back program that credits players money after every deposit. As someone who both rarely claims a bonus at any casino these days, and has often wondered why no casinos had specifically targeted the growing group of "anti-bonus" players, the name alone was enough to earn my curiosity.
Software and game selection
No Bonus Casino is an in-browser casino offering games supplied by Net Entertainment, Amatic Industries, and Yggdrasil Gaming, which gives it a healthy selection of games for you to choose from. It is effectively a "skin" of the other casinos that are run by the operator L&L Europe, so if you have played at any of the others the experience will be almost identical. I was particularly impressed with the speed in which I was able to move around the website, and found the interface very easy to use. The instant search box is particularly handy and it allows you to search for games that are outside the specific genre that you may be viewing at the time.
The game selection is diverse, with slots, table games, video poker, lottery games, and keno available to play in different sections of the site. I expected the slots to be a huge portion of the library, and they certainly were, with recent releases like Dracula, Steam Tower, Sticker, and Cyrus the Virus headlining the 150 or so slot machines. The Net Entertainment and Yggdrasil games offer the most advanced and visually pleasing gameplay, while the Amatic games look 10 years behind in comparison. I was pleased to see the amount and variety of table games that I found at No Bonus Casino. The selection was impressive, with multiple variations of Blackjack, Caribbean Stud Poker, Baccarat, Roulette, Casino Hold'em, Oasis Poker, Pontoon, Texas Hold'em and more all available to play.
There is also a good live casino attached to No Bonus Casino, with games being broadcast from two different locations. You can play live Roulette, Blackjack, or Punto Banco 24 hours a day with games broadcast from the Net Entertainment studios in Malta. Between the hours of 10am through to 5am you can also choose to play at real tables that are beamed from the land based Portomaso Casino which is located in Paceville, Malta.
No bonuses, no worries?
Obviously this casino's biggest selling point is its decision to toss bonuses out the window and instead try to offer both a healthy cash back scheme (10% of losses), and high quality service. As someone who plays at loads of different casinos and rarely claims a bonus, the immediate question that came to mind was is this really any better than playing at any other good casino and just refusing to claim the bonuses? I'd say the answer is a qualified yes. The main reason in the cashback scheme, which at 10% of losses, is quite generous. There are no wagering requirements at all to the cashback payments and you can withdraw them immediately if you prefer. There is a catch though: the cashback is only paid if you have lost all of your previous day's deposits. So if you're the type of player that has a "win or bust" style, it's a great deal. If you're more conservative and sometimes withdraw with a partial loss banked, then it won't do anything for you.
Banking and customer service
Banking at No Bonus Casino is good, with players offered a fairly standard selection of popular transactional options. Deposits are handled via credit card, bank wire, and a series of e-Wallets including Neteller and Skrill, while withdrawals can be processed via credit card, bank wire, Skrill, or Neteller. One of the advantages of running a casino that does not offer bonuses is, at least in theory, the fact that casino staff should not have to spend much time at all vetting withdrawals due to the lack of scope for so-called "bonus abuse" (a.k.a players that are better at maths than the casino). Taking this to its inevitable conclusion, I half hoped that the withdrawal payments from this casino would be automated and instantaneous. Unfortunately that was not the case and my test transaction came through to my Skrill account overnight after its submission in the early evening. Obviously that is still pretty quick, but it seems to me that this casino is simply using the exact same withdrawal process as the other casinos in the group (which all do offer bonuses), which to me is a small missed opportunity. I also noted that the casino does not pay withdrawals at all over weekends, and there is a €5000 daily withdrawal limit, though thankfully pooled progressive wins are not subject to these limitations.
The customer service offered by the casino is closer to run of the mill, rather than what I would characterise as "excellent" as claimed. You can talk to someone at the casino either via telephone (requiring an international call to Malta) or via the live chat tab that is present on every page of the website, but only between the Euro-centric hours of 10am to 1am CET. Outside of that time your enquiries are emailed to the support staff to handle in the next day's shift.
Encryption, fair play, and responsible gaming
No Bonus Casino encrypts its information using a standard 128-bit SSL connection, meaning that your transmissions to and from the casino are private. I was unable to find any payout or third party fairness information on the site, which is a bit of a disappointment. On the positive side, you can find the payout rate for most of the slot machines individually in the help section for each game.
I was initially surprised to find that there were no responsible gambling options present in the account section of the website after logging in. As this casino holds a UK Gambling Commission license, it is required to provide them. However after a bit of hunting around I found a link to a page that allowed me to set deposit, wager, and loss limits, as well as account timeouts and self exclusion. This is good, however it was only accessible via a two word text link at the end of a paragraph found half way down the generic responsible gambling page, and not prominently displayed in the account options menu like just about every other casino that offers the same thing these days. I can't say for sure if this is an oversight or a deliberate decision, but it doesn't seem right to me.
I've been banging on for years to anyone who will listen that someone should launch a casino that specifically and proudly states that it doesn't offer bonuses. Well here is one and it's not too shabby. The 10% cashback is especially good if you are one to either bank a win or play through all of your deposit. However the reality is that everything else at this casino is no different to any of the others run by the same management, so the potential advantages of not offering bonuses such as automated withdrawal payments are not being fully harnessed.
