Review of Lock Casino
We came across the Curacao-licensed Lock Casino out of the blue one day here in the Casino Listings office when a poker-playing colleague recommended we check out a new casino that his favourite poker site, Lock Poker, had established. Its fair to say we were immediately impressed by the smooth design of the attractive website. But given that there are more than a few shady RTG operations out there, we thought we had better take a closer look to see what lies behind the professional looking facade.
Blacklisted - extreme payment delays
Lock Casino and Poker was hurt by a payment processor seizure of funds in mid 2010 that left it unable to pay players in a timely manner, when previously it had been paying withdrawals within 48 hours. Players report being paid, albeit slowly, and in instalments as small as $500 at a time. Casino players can sometimes expedite a withdrawal by asking for the money to be paid into a Lock Poker account. Update June 2013: poker players are now trying to trade their balances on the site for as little as 33 cents on the dollar. Meanwhile the CEO sponsors expensive trips to Portuguese castles for poker pros sponsored by the site. This site looks more and more like a ponzi scheme that will come crashing down sooner or later. Avoid.
Lock Casino software and game selection
Lock Casino runs the Real Time Gaming (RTG) software platform, which hosts a huge range of graphically and audibly impressive casino games. The casino can either be downloaded and installed on your PC or Mac, or you can use the instant play flash version inside your web browser. Wait wait wait! say the 5% or so of you out there in Mac-land, did they just say downloadable Mac casino? We sure did, and this is only the second casino in recent memory to offer such a beast (the other being Tower Casino).
A further innovation is the casino lobby which provides a variety of filters to allow you to find the game you like - not just by game type, but taking slots for example, you can filter based on paylines, progressives, or even maintain a list of your favourite games. It is good to see casinos start to innovate in the user interface arena in order to make it easier to find a game you'll like. As for the games, Lock Casino offers a full selection of RTG slots, table games, video poker and parlour games. In short you should have no trouble finding a game you enjoy here. As part of the RTG jackpot network, you'll find a wide range of slot and progressive table game jackpots to aim for, over $4.1 million in total at the time of this review.
Lock Casino bonus and promotions
Lock Casino offers a range of bonus offers to new players. The standard bonus on offer for all Lock Casino patrons is the 'locknload' bonus which allows you to claim a 100% bonus on every deposit you make, up until you reach a maximum of $2500 in bonuses. There are also dedicated slots and blackjack bonuses. However all the bonuses have withdrawal limits on them with the maximum being $5000, so should you hit a huge win chances are you won't be able to keep all of it.
Support, banking, and security at Lock Casino
Support is provided exclusively by electronic methods, i.e. live chat and email, with no phone option to be found. We found the live chat support staff to be swift and helpful when we tested. Deposits and withdrawals are conducted by a reasonable range of options, with several specifically catering towards U.S. players. As mentioned above, withdrawal processing can be slow, and winnings are often paid in small instalments.
Along with pretty much every other RTG casino, Lock Casino bears the certification of TST Systems, an independent verification of the randomness of the random number generator that the games use. There are no published payout percentage reports as yet - we can only hope to see these in the future.
Lock Casino launched with a slick website, native Mac software, fast payments and a good customer support crew. It is a shame that since then processor seizures have left the casino in a position where they are unable to pay players in a timely fashion. We cannot in good conscience recommend that players play here as things stand at the moment.
