Review of Llama Casino
Casinos and llamas. Two things that I have probably never read in the same sentence, let alone finding a casino with Llama in its name. In these days of crazy, weird, and downright nonsensical casino names, clearly I should have known better! Llama Casino is an online casino that recently opened its virtual doors to players from around the world, offering a variety of games from different suppliers along with a selection of live dealer tables. Its mascot is naturally a jolly looking cartoon llama. I know, I know. Stick with me folks as I take a trip to llama-town.
Website, software and game selection
My first impressions of the Llama Gaming website were mixed. They have the aforementioned cute llama mascot but the rest of the stock art used on the page goes for the sophisticated, elegant, classy, European establishment filled with attractive models that don't wear much kind of look. It doesn't really fit together with a hairy animal that spits. The home page features characters that I instantly recognised such as Gonzo from Gonzo's Quest and one of the dwarves from Boom Brothers, both Net Entertainment games. This is strange because as far as I could see during my time testing the casino, they have no games from Net Entertainment at all.
The games that Llama Casino does have are supplied by suppliers including Betsoft, Pragmatic Play, Total E Soft, along with live dealer Blackjack, Baccarat, Roulette and Keno games from Ezugi. The casino packs them into a presentable format with a menu of categories on the left and a grid of games on the right. It looks dated but it is easy to navigate, and I was able to register a new account and deposit funds within just a few minutes. If you are the type of player who wants to play on the go, they have a separate mobile betting site that is compatible with both smartphones and tablets but it only features some of the Betsoft games.
The slot machine selection is extensive at Llama Gaming, but sadly sports a number of games from rogue providers. Casino Listings advises people to avoid Pragmatic Play (aka TopGame) slots due to past "malfunctions" that remove wild symbols from the reels, the huge number of outright rogue casinos that operate using the software, and various other unsavoury incidents involving this software company. And then there is Betsoft, which we also advise you to avoid due to various progressive jackpot shenanigans that we discovered. The Total E Soft games are simplistic things that look like something from the late 1990s and are not likely to hold your attention for long.
The table game selection is also very healthy at Llama Gaming, with 24 different games available for you to try. You will find classic casino staples such as Blackjack, Roulette, Baccarat, and more mixed in with some specialty games that you don't see too often also sprinkled in. Table game fans will also enjoy the Ezugi live dealer Blackjack, Baccarat, Roulette, Keno, and Lottery games, which broadcast games from a studio right to your screen. Video poker is also well handled, with over 15 games on offer. There are also several variations to allow players to test their luck at 4, 10, 25, and 50 hands at a time.
Despite what the "Poker" option in the main menu suggests, Llama Casino does not have a poker room. Clicking this options just takes you to a page that lists the casino's video poker games. Llama Gaming does however have a sportsbook that offers a huge variety of sports to bet on.
Banking and customer support options
Banking options at Llama Casino run the gamut from credit card to e-Wallet, and bank transfers. While there are a lot of options for banking, the payout times are not very impressive. Wire transfers have payout times of 5-10 business days, while a check can take up to 4 weeks to arrive. If you have the option of using a Neteller or Skrill account, that is the preferred option with the casino claiming payouts are authorised within hours. This did not eventuate, at least in my case, with me waiting a couple of days to see my test withdrawal paid via Neteller. There is also a €10,000 rolling monthly withdrawal limit that prevents you from withdrawing more than that in any consecutive 31 day period, though thankfully any progressive jackpot wins are exempt from this limitation. Those of you that like to claim bonuses should be aware that the casino caps the amount you may withdraw from all deposit bonuses: up to €5000 from a bonus less than 200%, and up to €10,000 for bonuses over 200%.
Customer service is available by email or phone during UK business hours only. There is no live support chat facility on the site, which is my preferred method of getting basic support from an online casino. So you can either wait to get an email response which for me was an overnight delay, or phone the UK using long distance calling rates. To be honest this lack of flexibility in contacting support is another big chink in the armor for Llama Gaming for me.
Safety, fairness, and responsible Gaming
Unfortunately, I was disappointed to see that Llama Gaming does not promote fairness via outside auditing of their site. The casino is run under a standard Costa Rican business license, which is a bad omen for players as there is no regulatory body there to hold the casino accountable to any standards of fair play. This combined with the lack of outside testing and auditing is a big red flag in my eyes. I am also disappointed to see that Llama Gaming does not offer any sort of information or user controls to manage responsible gaming whatsoever.
On the surface Llama Gaming is a decent-looking site, but there are some very serious problems that I have with this casino. The collection of games is nothing spectacular, and the inclusion of Betsoft and Pragmatic Play games is a downright turn-off. There are also some real issues when it comes to the casino's lack of licensing and transparency. Those issues, combined with limited customer service and slow payouts end up leaving Llama Casino as a place you should probably give a miss.
