CasinoMax is an online casino established in 2017 with games supplied by Realtime Gaming. It is operated by Entertainment Software Group NV and is registered under the jurisdiction of Curaçao. Last updated: August 24, 2019.
For several years we recommended a group of casinos known as the Club World Group as some of the best online betting destinations for American players. They had an experienced and competent management team and paid out players consistently and on time. A family dispute and subsequent court case that forced out the owner sadly put paid to both the group's reputation and our recommendation. So I was intrigued to see that the former owner has returned with a newly launched operation, CasinoMax.
Casino Max runs on Realtime Gaming software, which is the dominant platform run by U.S-friendly casinos these days. Most experienced American players will know straight away what to expect. The casino offers an instant play version of their software, which can be used by both PC and Mac users. The site's layout isn't overwhelmingly complicated, and you can tell that mobile support is a key focus for the casino.
Both video and classic slots are offered at the casino, with a couple hundred games on offer. These games are divided into 3-reel slots, 5-reel slots, progressive jackpots, and games with bonus rounds. There is a search function present as well if you don't feel like scrolling through thumbnails. As per usual with RTG slots, the quality varies wildly. There are some older games that are starting to look and feel dated, but to their credit RTG has begun introducing newer modern games in recent times like Polar Explorer, Pirate Isle, and Orc vs. Elf, which incorporate 3D rendered graphics and fun and interesting features.
It should be noted that many of the slots have small local progressive jackpots attached to them, which may be awarded randomly on any spin, regardless of whether the spin is a winner or not. There are also the usual set of RTG pooled progressive jackpots including the likes of Aztec's Millions and Megasaur, which can have huge six and seven figure prizes.
Table games and video poker are also available at the casino, with general casino favourites like blackjack, baccarat, three card poker, and more all available. Video poker games like Jacks or Better, Jokers Wild, Deuces Wild, and loads of variants can also be found here as well. Mobile play is also supported at CasinoMax, and although not every game is available on the smaller screen, it has a quick and easy to use mobile platform with a large library of games to play.
The banking options at this casino are more limited than most. At the time I tested the casino there were only three deposit methods available: Bitcoin, Mastercard or Visa, while the payout options were bank wire or a cheque. Bitcoin is not available for play as an in game currency so your deposit will be converted to your account currency, which can be one of US, Canadian, or Australian Dollars. The banking page lists popular e-wallet services such as Neteller, EcoPayz, and Skrill as "coming soon", though when that will be is anyone's guess - certainly the live chat support wasn't able to give me a specific date.
There is a $25 fee for making a withdrawal by bank or check and the minimum withdrawal amount is $200, so the better option is probably Bitcoin which allows you to withdraw as little as $30 with no fee. This is one casino that is in sore need of more banking options to at least give you the option of saving on some of the fees. The maximum payout limit is set at $4000 per week. That said, the payout times are almost as good as it gets for American players, with bank transfers completed within 2-5 business days after a 48 hour pending period.
Customer support at CasinoMax is excellent. I used the live chat widget and asked about the VIP program, which is the standard RTG program where you get 1 point for every $10 wagered, and 100 points can be redeemed for $1 cash. I was given answers quickly by the support rep. The rep also hooked me up with a no deposit bonus that had decent terms (35x wagering with a $200 withdrawal cap) which was much appreciated. I also asked about whether there were any maximum bet restrictions on the bonuses and was told that they would be limited in the games if there were any but I didn't see my bets limited at all.
Speaking of bonuses, this casino's policy is a mixed bag: reasonably good in some ways while downright odd in others. While bonus funds are non-cashable, there are no maximum bet restrictions, nor are there any win limits imposed on you when you claim a bonus. So if you do manage to hit it big and complete the wagering requirements you will at least know you can pocket the full amount. This is good.
However one thing I noted is an unusual term associated with the sign-up bonus, which the casino advertises that you can claim up to three times. If you do claim it more than once, bear in mind that they will subtract the total of all the non-cashable bonus money from your first withdrawal, not just the last bonus that you claimed, even if you zeroed your balance in between claiming the bonuses. I asked support to confirm this was indeed the case and when I mentioned that I thought that policy was a bit rough they pointed out that this rule only applies to the initial three-time bonus that you can claim, not to any others. So there you are, caveat emptor, and frankly if you ask me, it is not worth claiming this bonus more than once.
The security function of the casino is the standard SSL encryption that is employed by all reputable sites, such as online banks, e-wallets and other secure services. SSL encryption is fundamental to your online safety, as not encrypting information puts you at risk of having a hacker steal personal or financial data as its sent between your computer and the casino's servers.
The casino's operating company possesses a license to operate from Gaming Curacao. As regular readers of our reviews will know, I don't view this as either a good or bad thing because the reality is that Curacao is in the licensing fees collection business rather than the casino regulation business, which is a very important distinction. That said, this casino's owner has proved itself to be a professional and trustworthy operator for well over a decade.
RTG has their software audited by Technical Systems Testing on a monthly basis to ensure that the games are fair and that their random number generator complies with mathematical tests of randomness. The group's responsible gaming page contains information on fighting problem betting behaviours, and the casino has the ability to implement cool off periods, set deposit limits, or permanently deactivate your account should you need to. However these settings cannot be self administered so you will need to contact support and make a request to do so.
I am pleased to see the return of the people who ran the Club World group of casinos so successfully for so many years. They have a well earned reputation for being trustworthy and they know how to run a professional operation that caters predominantly to American players. That said, the limited banking options, along with the high fees associated with withdrawals, left a sour taste in my mouth. Let's hope that the expanded banking options promised by the casino arrive sooner rather than later.
