Number Systems Are Stupid, But I Use One Anyway.
We have all heard of people selling number systems to win the lottery or games like keno, and if you have ever read the actual math behind those games you know that those number systems are bogus. They simply do not work. In lottery type games the numbers are chosen completely at random, and a past drawing result does not impact a future result. This is the only real strategy within games like these.
Despite knowing and accepting this as fact, I still employ a numbers system.
I know it is dumb, but in the short term it has paid small dividends.
My system is based on a theory that past events somehow DO influence future events. Foolish as it sounds, my mind reasons that if something has not occurred in the recent past it is more likely to pop up in the near future. My theory has no scientific or other merits and I really suggest you do not use my system. Repeat in capitalized letters (to act as a disclaimer, not to annoy): DO NOT USE MY NUMBERS THEORY. YOU WILL LIKELY END UP POORER IF YOU USE IT.
This theory takes place not only in the gambling world, but real life events as well.
In the real world take this example: Each day that a giant earthquake like the one that recently rocked Japan does not happen, I feel that it is more likely with each day that passes. Thinking like this makes me a nervous person. I get really freaked out when I hear that the Yellowstone super volcano is 300,000 overdue to erupt or when I hear that Earth is due to be hit by a comet.
In the gambling world take keno for instance: I am at the bar and notice that the number 5 has not come up for the last 6 drawings. I take that into effect and run to the lottery machine and order up a ticket that has the number 5 on it. Scientifically there is an equal chance that the number 5 will be chosen in every single drawing, but I am willing time and time again to risk my money saying it will indeed come up.
Often enough that number 5 will pop up and it does impact my winnings positively, however I am not driving a Ferrari. The difficulty of my theory is that in order to win big money you need to match a lot of numbers. Using my theory to match multiple numbers is very difficult, and it is nearly impossible to match up 7 numbers going on the instance of past results.
There are 20 numbers being drawn every round and it would take a savant or pure luck in order for me to cash in big, but I still maintain in small increments that it does work for me and has paid my bar tab in the past.
So in summary, perhaps the number system that I use is impractical and mathematically not possible, but darn it I like it, and think that in the short term it works for me.
What do you think? Do YOU use a number system?
