The owner of Crown Resorts in Australia has come out to explain his company's partnership with Australian sportsbetting firm BetEasy, saying that the deal allows Australian companies to reclaim some of the online sportsbetting market.

James Packer claimed that offshore companies have overtaken the market in Oz, and that the joint venture between Crown and BetEasy has the best odds of reclaiming some of that market share. The company created by the two firms is 67% owned by Crown Resorts, and 33% by BetEasy, and will take advantage of the latter's sportsbetting business with the existing Betfair Australasia operation.

Commenting on the issue Packer said, "This exciting new venture will help build an Australian-owned business that can compete strongly with the largely foreign-owned competitors in our wagering industry."
