The World Cup in Brazil

56 replies • Last post

So who else is psyched to watch the world's biggest sporting event? Most of the games are on in the middle of the night for me but fortunately the night match in Brazil was on at 6am here so I got to watch the game without getting up super early.

Brazil were a little lucky. The crucial penalty decision was soft as there is no way a hand on the arm and shoulder is enough to make a man fall over like that. On the other hand you aren't supposed to be grabbing people by the arm and shoulder and it's one of those situations where if he doesn't go down the referee is never going to give a foul, even though it technically is. No doubt we will see the same thing 200 more times over the world cup and it will all be play on. Neymar should have gone off for the elbow to Modric's face too.

Anyway the clash of the big guns is tomorrow morning... no I am not talking about the finalists last time, Spain playing the Netherlands, I am talking about Chile vs the (not so) mighty Australia. Wish us luck, because our team desperately needs it in that group.

Who do you like for the tournament? Anyone placed any bets?

Yeah that was a huge surprise. I did not think Spain would be as good as last time as I think they are past their peak but wow, no-one expected them to be that poor. Robben was just too good.

Australia were surprisingly good. After Chile scored twice and thought it was all over, Australia ran over the top of them in the 2nd half and were unlucky not to get at least a draw out of the match. I think they played a lot better than most people here expected them to. It was a very exciting match with lots of chances and Chile were better where it counted in front of goal.

Yes, everyone told that Chile is big favorite, but generally game was balanced, just very bad two minutes for Australia, and few great moments at which they did not score.
Unfortunately looks like chances for 1/8 almost not-exist, very hard group 😢

I was at work for most of the opening matches, but was lucky enough to catch some on TV this weekend.

I really was impressed by the highlights that I saw from the Dutch. They sure trounced Spain. Can't wait to watch some more!

Yeah I agree, Australia are pretty much gone from here. If they had managed a point or even a win then they might have been able to sneak through on 4 points but I can't see them beating either the Dutch in their current form or Spain who will have to win the match if they are to progress. The media keeps reminding us that The Netherlands have never beaten Australia. I think that record is about to change!

At the risk of jinxing things, this world cup has been one of the best I have ever seen so far. Most teams have tried to attack and there have been lots of goals. Messi scored a beauty this morning that was similar to about 30 others I have seen him score for Barcelona. He just glides across the edge of the penalty area while the defenders are stuck in slow motion either falling over or moving the wrong way then he smashes it into the bottom corner.

Tomorrow it is Germany vs Portugal which is another blockbuster. Its on at 2am for me and I have been sick with a cold and need my sleep so I might have to settle for watching the replay. 🤢

The USA is playing Ghana tomorrow slim. Confident?

Australia still have little chances, you right, if they won Chile, then chances can be really greater. NL is great, and also after such great win in first match, but their defence is really bad, so there is still chance if AU score first, and then will catch them on counter-attack and made it to 2-0. Then it will be really hard even for NL. Now they need at least draw with NL, and win Spain, they not so strong this year i think.
Usa should win Ghana i believe, even without Donovan.
And get better Ed as soon as possible, to see more matches 🙂

Wow, boring game to be honest, even with 4-0. Portugal shows nothing, like young boys... Stupid red card, and absolute zero willing to do something in this game. Germany is strong here, yeah.
Going to buy few more beers till next game 🙂

I raced home to catch the USA game and was bummed that I missed the first goal! Still a pretty tense first half as Ghana seemed to have control a lot.

Rough going thus far... here's hoping we still have some players at the end of the match with injuries!

Geez the USA (aka Dominos Pizza boys) were very lucky. Ghana was destroying them in the 2nd half and got the equaliser and I thought if anyone was going to win it would be Ghana. Then the Americans got a corner and scored against the run of play. It was a great game to watch with lots of action.

Oh my goodness.. the Russian goalkeeper... what was he doing? He could have let the ball hit him in the face and it would have been saved.

Oh but they have scored and so now I hope he's feeling a lot better.

Terrible game, and terrible situation for Russia. Now they need to win two matches, or will play against Germany in 1/8 (if they even qualify to 1/8 with such game). Shame.
NL - Australia today, should be interesting game.

Hahah... belaff's on the beers! 🍺 🍺

Yeah some bad individual mistakes cost us that game - defenders for the first 2 and goalkeeper for the 3rd. What a goal from Tim Cahill though. It will take a spectacular goal to beat that for goal of the tournament.

It's shocking to see Spain out after only two games. I was hoping they would win so at least Australia would have a minor miracle's chance of qualifying by beating them in the next game. But now its a dead match with neither team able to qualify.

Croatia is whipping Cameroon who are down to 10 players and look like a rabble. Sounds like they were so worried about the amount they were going to get paid for winning that they forgot that they actually need to win to get their money.

Missed game with Croatia, what a shit! 😢
Of course i am with beer, it is world cup, what else i should do?!
Help cl-klaw to find my not counted 9 reviews, make one more(somehow i missed next casino), so will have 200 cl chips, and you ed, REALLY need to process it fast (i told this to you every order xD), but now seriously, last order 140$ i have only 40$ and 100$ takes gf because she know that i will spend all on beers. Now WC continue, and i have no money for beer, she will not give me anything 😂 How can i support teams and watch games without beer, it is not interesting at all.
Okay i need go sleep as still drunk 😂 Congrats to Croatia, they will have hard game against Mexico for 1/8 entry.
btw, i think Spain should lost their third match, because Australia not looks like they will give up.

If I had been awake at the time I would have said no way, the English are too scared of Suarez. And then he scored 2 goals to prove me right. Everybody is an expert in hindsight right? 😂

Greece are the most boring team in world football. They know how to kill a game and Japan were not good enough to get the goal they deserved.

yeah, from begin i support England because my friend from childhood support them, but when i see how Suarez and all the team happy to score one single game, how they motivate, i start support them. I would like to see emotions from players, when they want win, not just get money.

italy - Costa-Rica in 5 hours, if draw England go home, if Costa-Rica win England go home. Should be great game, i think Italy win, but it defo will not be easy game for both teams.
Swiss-France next, also very interesting game, France is favorite by bookmakers, but for some reasons i think Swiss win, or will be draw.

First half, USA 0 - 1 Portugal
But Usa looks really great, i think should be 1-1 first half. Usa really need at least draw, or in trouble since next game against Germany.
