Have You Heard of the Silk Road?

7 replies • Last post

This website is where people can buy and sell all sorts of things with bitcoins. However, their biggest selling product is DRUGS. They used to even sell weapons, but now they have banned that, due to the negative attention.

This is the underbelly of the world wide web. You have to download certain software to even get there (TOR). You have to convert money to bitcoins to buy anything there.

There are tons of articles out there about The Silk Road, but I find it extremely fascinating for some reason.

The site is run by the "Dread Pirate Roberts," known as DPR. lol You can find tons of info on the Silk Road and you can Google Images to get an idea of what it looks like without downloading TOR.

Buyers leave feedback for sellers, so that future buyers know who is legit and who is not so legit. Still, I read one article where a seller had stellar feedback, then took all the money from his last orders and ran.
So, of course, there is always a risk. But Silk Road claims there have been over 15,000 transactions with NO interference from LE. God only know what is in the mail, lol!

Anyway, I will provide a few links for your reading pleasure. Let me know what you think.

I found one article where a person went through step-by-step on how to buy some weed and another bought a book, lol, so supposedly there is something for everyone on the silk road.

I have indeed hope. There are in fact a couple of bitcoin based casinos which I have been looking into. The anonymity of bitcoins could be an interesting solution for American based casino players.

As for the silk road, you're taking an enormous risk buying drugs over the internet. Not just the risk of someone taking the money and running but the risk of having to receive the package.

I hope you still have those few bitcoins. They are worth around $100 each these days. At one stage they were over $200.

I realize it is a huge risk. I am just fascinated by it all for some reason, lol. I know some people make money buying and selling bitcoins. That is an interesting idea/option for online casinos.

From what I've read, the Bitcoin is great because it is anonymous, but the price stability is non-existant. I think I read a month or two back that the price was in excess of $200 for the currency, but now that things have cooled off (for the time being) in Cyprus and Greece that the price is down substantially.

I would love to gamble online with Bitcoin though. The whole marketplace seems like an interesting way to do business.

Check out bitcoincharts.com if you want to see the crazy price fluctuations. I remember when they were under $3 each. Should have bought some...

That's the truth. As enticing as they are, there is no way in Hades you would catch me jumping in on anything so volatile. $3 is a lot safer bet than $100, eh?
