Twenty Questions

Hello Friends,

Can we use another guessing game? I thought this one might be fun, because we can think of anything "that exists in the universe," we are limited to "yes or no" questions, and players must guess within twenty questions or the poster wins.

Here are the rules:

First poster must think of something that exists in this universe. She may answer only Yes or No to the other players' questions.

First player begins the game by asking a yes or no question. The best questions to ask first are general ones such as "Is this a class of things?" or "Is this a unique item?"

Ask up to 20 questions to try to determine what the player is thinking. The classic Twenty Questions question is whether the object is an animal, vegetable or mineral but remember that things made of plastic or other man-made materials are none of these. (I have also heard, "Is it bigger than a breadbox," for a common Twenty-Questions question).

Ask questions such as "Is it alive or is it dead?" if you determine that the object is a living creature. You may also want to ask whether it is human or not and if so, whether it is male or female. Other good questions involve finding out if the object is famous or notorious or if it's someone in your direct acquaintance.

Answer ambiguous, non-"yes or no" questions by replying "I can't answer that question." You may also reply "I don't know" if it is a question you can't answer.

Win the game as a questioner if you can determine what the first player is thinking of before using up all of your twenty questions. The person giving the answers wins if no one is able to guess what she is thinking of.

EACH PLAYER IS ALLOWED TWENTY QUESTIONS, BUT MAY ONLY ASK ONE QUESTION AT A TIME, THEN WAIT FOR THE ANSWER BEFORE POSTING ANOTHER QUESTION.

Play this game with a small group for the greatest effect. This will allow the twenty questions to be distributed evenly among the players. If the group is small enough, twenty questions may be allotted to each of the players.

IN THE CASE OF CL, WE NEED A GROUP LARGE ENOUGH, SO COME ONE PEOPLE! LET'S PLAY MORE GAMES, HELP THE FORUMS BECOME MORE ACTIVE AND EARN THOSE CL CHIPS!!! 🙂

Play the next round by letting the victor think of the next object for the other players to guess.

Information retrieved from How to Play Twenty Questions, E How, http://www.ehow.com/how_2044552_play-twenty-questions.html on March 4, 2012.

Tips: Ask specific questions to get the most revealing answers. Novice players tend to ask questions that could apply to some but not all of the object's characteristics and therefore may receive a misleading answer of "Yes

OMGosh, this is so hard, because an OBJECT can be just anything at all, lol. I really have to THINK so I don't waste my questions, lol!

Yes, it is very hard. That's why I had to take time to think out my questions. I am dying to give you a hint but I will follow the rules.

6. Yes!

I was the same way with wanting to give hints, lol!. No worries, we will play by the rules, and if I don't guess in 20 questions, it will just be your turn to stump me again. 🙂

7. No

There are so many ifs, ands and buts, so many very close but not quite suggestions I could make. If the person doesn't guess within 20 questions, do we reveal what the object is?

Yes, if I don't guess within 20 questions, then you reveal the object and start another round. 🙂

This is honestly impossible, lol. An object can be ANYTHING, and I am no closer than when I started.

I think you are closer than you think, but yes it seems impossible. Look at #11 and #12. It took me literally hours of research to find the answer to yours. I had a list with all my clues, then as I got a list of names I narrowed them down and crossed them off. So let's see.

The object is functional.
It may be found in the house.
It would not look out of place outside.
Smaller than a basketball-------tie these first three together
Can't answer---- smaller than a golf ball--------definite hint here
Is not round.-------so what shape is it?
Not plastic-------------what is it made of?
Not edible.

There are clues in my answers. This one is hard. I think I was very lucky to guess the one you listed. I know I'm not supposed to help, but can't help in doing so.

Lol, well you are slychic, because I was going to review all the clues before I came up with my next question, lol. THANKS for putting them all together for me in one place. Also, do you think a person is easier than an object? Not saying that because you did not do well, because you really DID, but just thinking in general it might be.

I don't have another question quite yet. 🙂

I think to guess anything in 20 questions is really hard. I think I was just lucky in my questioning. There are millions of people that it could be. Just think if he actor had not won an Academy Award. How hard would it be to narrow it down? I'm sure those who are familiar with playing the game are much better at asking the right questions. I think there has to be a bit of luck involved with winning don't you think?

I think you are correct. Still, in my opinion (lol), people are easier, just because, for me, it would be easier to narrow down, like gender, age, are they famous, etc., but you are right that it helped that this actor won an award. I am honestly not making excuses or being defensive in the least, because this is a tough game no matter what! You did a great job with the questioning, too, to nail that one. 🙂
